Job Summary

Our busy and creative Income team at University Hospitals Birmingham is seeking an ambitious and proactive Band 6 Finance Manager.

The position is a hybrid of office and home work, headquartered in Regent Court near Five Ways in Birmingham.

We are willing to offer the post as a secondment opportunity to the right candidate.

The Finance Manager will serve as a financial specialist, assisting the Technical Accountant in delivering financial management and business support services for negotiating, planning, and reporting healthcare income within the Trust (c1.5 billion).

The selected candidate will plan and prioritise their own workload without supervision in order to accomplish the needed goals. They will be expected to have expert knowledge and the ability to apply, interpret, and grasp national policy and professional standards, such as the National Payment System, while also staying current with routinely updating guidelines in an ever-changing financial environment.

The role entails reporting financial and non-financial performance management information (income and activity) on a regular basis, participating in the Trust’s annual financial planning and budget setting process, assisting with the development of the Trust’s Local Delivery Plans (LDPs) with commissioners, and providing professional advice to peers on business case development. The Finance Manager will cover for the Income Accountant and Technical Income Accountant as needed.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • High general education standards (at least A Level or equivalent).
  • GCSE Level C or higher in English and Mathematics.
  • Full member of AAT and actively pursuing a CCAB qualification (managerial or professional level), CCAB finalist, or significant relevant experience.

 

Experience

Essential

  • Significant NHS experience in a finance function within a commissioners or provider NHS institution.
  • Experience evaluating, interpreting, and presenting complicated financial data and developing robust forecasts.
  • Experience with management accounting processes and full absorption costing.
  • Experience in training and supporting others in one’s own area of expertise.
  • Evidence of planning and coordinating tasks necessary to attain a certain objective within a specified timeframe, without direction from the line manager.
