Specialist Clinical Pharmacist Visa Sponsorship Uk
Job Description
Highly Specialist Clinical Pharmacist Gastroenterology
University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust
We are looking for a forward-thinking and compassionate pharmacist to join our gastroenterology service — someone who is confident in clinical decision-making, passionate about improving patient care, and ready to influence how medicines are used across a rapidly developing specialty.
About the Role
In this specialist post, you will provide advanced pharmaceutical care for patients living with inflammatory bowel disease, liver conditions and other gastrointestinal disorders across both inpatient wards and outpatient clinics.
You will lead or support pharmacist-run clinics, contribute to ward rounds and biologic infusion services, and offer detailed counselling and monitoring for patients receiving complex therapies. A key part of your work will involve independent prescribing (or progressing towards it), medicines optimisation, and therapeutic drug monitoring to ensure every patient receives safe and effective treatment.
Your clinical expertise will help shape prescribing decisions, support the implementation of NICE guidance, and drive pathway development. You will also play a central role in evaluating high-cost medicines, supporting formulary submissions, and contributing to governance, audit and service improvement programmes.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver specialist clinical pharmacy services, including pharmacist-led clinics and infusion support for biologics and immunomodulators.
- Provide independent prescribing to initiate, adjust and review treatment in line with national standards and local commissioning guidance.
- Offer expert advice to consultants, nurses and primary-care teams on complex medication regimens, interactions and monitoring.
- Lead or support therapeutic drug monitoring, dose optimisation and medicines reconciliation, particularly for high-risk or vulnerable patients.
- Participate in clinical trials, research activity, quality improvement projects and audits to enhance gastroenterology pharmacy services.
- Monitor drug expenditure, support cost-effectiveness reviews and contribute to business cases involving high-cost medicines.
- Provide education, supervision and mentorship to pharmacists, trainees, nurses and technicians working within gastroenterology.
- Support governance, risk-management, sustainability and continuous-improvement initiatives aligned with the Trust’s Patient First strategy.
Who We’re Looking For
We are seeking an innovative and collaborative pharmacist with strong analytical and communication skills. Experience in gastroenterology or another specialty involving biologics and complex therapies would be ideal. You should already be an independent prescriber or be willing to complete the qualification within an agreed timeframe.
If you enjoy working as part of a multidisciplinary team and you thrive in a role where clinical expertise, leadership and service innovation come together, this post will give you the opportunity to grow and make a meaningful impact.

We are also a Disability Confident Employer (Level 3) and a Veteran Aware Trust, committed to breaking down barriers and supporting all colleagues to thrive.
