Birth Choice Midwife
Job Description
Are you someone who finds purpose in supporting families through some of the most important decisions of their lives? If you are passionate about helping parents make confident, informed choices about their birth experience, we would love to welcome you to our team.
About the Role
As a Birth Choices Midwife, you will play a key part in guiding families through their maternity journey. Working closely under the supervision of the Consultant Midwife, you will support individuals and families as they explore their birth preferences and create personalised care and support plans.
Your role will centre on ensuring families feel heard, respected, and empowered. You will facilitate shared and informed decision-making, offering balanced, evidence-based information on a wide range of birth options—including elective caesarean birth and induction of labour. You will also work collaboratively with our multidisciplinary team and provide hands-on support within the Birth Choices clinic.
What We’re Looking For
To thrive in this role, you should be:
- A Registered Midwife with current NMC registration
- An excellent communicator with strong counselling skills
- Able to provide unbiased, evidence-based information to support informed choice
- Experienced in antenatal care and committed to personalised maternity support.
Why Join Us?
- Become part of a warm, supportive multidisciplinary team
- Play a meaningful role in shaping positive birth experiences for local families
- Access ongoing professional development and training opportunities
Role Responsibilities
The Birth Choices Midwife is responsible for helping families consider their full range of birth options and develop a care and support plan that truly reflects their needs. You’ll guide families through informed decision-making, ensuring they understand the benefits, risks, and alternatives of different choices—including induction of labour and elective caesarean birth.
You’ll work within the Antenatal Clinic team and contribute directly to the Birth Choices Clinic under the supervision of the Consultant Midwife.
Families will receive information through face-to-face appointments, virtual consultations, or telephone discussions, depending on their preference. You’ll also share written resources via email, printed leaflets, or by signposting to trusted online sources. Using tools like the BRAIN (Benefits, Risks, Alternatives, Intuition, Nothing) acronym, you’ll support balanced decision-making and help families understand their personal risk profile.
Experience in research is desirable, and the ability to locate, evaluate, and clearly communicate evidence-based information is essential.
