Australia has made new adjustments to visa requirements 8107, 8607, and 8608.
The new modifications will take effect starting next month.
Improvements have also been made for holders of the temporary Work (Skilled) visa (subclass 457), temporary Skill Shortage visa (subclass 482), and skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (provisional) visa (subclass 494).
In an effort to combat unfair labour practices, the Australian government has implemented additional modifications to visa conditions 8107, 8607, and 8608, which will take effect on July 1, 2024.
Australia’s Department of Home Affairs has announced enhancements to support labour market mobility for temporary migrants holding the following visas:
- Temporary Work (Skilled) Visa (Subclass 457)
- Temporary Skill Shortage Visa (Subclass 482)
- Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (provisional) Visa.
Holders of these visas who stop working with their sponsoring employer will have extra time to find a new sponsor, file for a new visa, or plan to leave the country, according to VisaGuide.World.
Holders of these visas will be allowed up to 180 days at a time, for a total of 365 days during the course of the visa issuance period.
During this time, visa holders may work for other employers. This includes employment in occupations not specified in their most recent, approved sponsorship nomination. This ensures that visa holders may support themselves while searching for a new sponsor.
The Department has reminded that sponsors must still notify the department if there is any change in the situation for a period of 28 days.
The Department has said that visa holders must not engage in any employment that conflicts with any licence or registration necessary for their nominated occupation, including any conditions or requirements to which they are subject.
The amendments apply to both existing visa holders and those given visas on or after July 1, 2024. Any time a visa holder stops working for their sponsor before July 1, 2024 does not count towards the new time periods indicated above.

New Migration Strategy for Improved Migration Management
On December 11, 2023, the Australian government unveiled a new migration plan, along with a policy roadmap that includes eight essential acts as well as more than 25 policy commitments and zones for future reform.
Authorities in Australia are likewise attempting to increase the number of overseas visitors.
On May 14, this year, the Australian government announced that the planning levels for the 2024-25 permanent migration programme would be set at 185,000 slots.
The Migration Programme attempts to fill gaps identified in key labour shortages while also prioritising visa processing in regional Australia.
