We are looking for a dedicated and experienced Pharmacist to join our Clinical Pharmacy Team at the Queen Elizabeth location as a Senior Support Pharmacist.

The chosen applicant will join a large clinical pharmacy team. They will collaborate closely with the Specialist Pharmacist for Surgery, medical practitioners, and nursing staff. You will manage and support band 6 chemists and clinical pharmacy technicians in order to support and improve patient stay in the hospital while maintaining direct patient contact.

You must be able to form good working connections, challenge and prioritise both your own and the team’s work.

Main responsibilities, tasks, and abilities required

We are looking for an enthusiastic clinical chemist with the ability to work in a specialised therapeutic area. You must be motivated, have strong communication skills, and a desire to use your knowledge, abilities, and experience to improve patient care and encourage healthcare providers on how to use medications most effectively.

You will have a patient-facing position, assisting the specialist within the surgical team in understanding treatment pathways. You will be encouraged to attend a standalone NMP course or, if you have previously achieved success in another area, to expand your expertise in this sector.

Duties will include providing clinical input to the surgical wards and demonstrating expert understanding of the clinical specialisation. You will provide a service in accordance with the Chief Pharmacist’s goals and the Trust’s agreed-upon standards, including

-Properly handle challenging and unclear problems.

-Make decisions using little information.

-Demonstrate advanced clinical reasoning and judgement.

-Show an intuitive understanding of situations.

-Ensure that the clinical services offered are of high quality and that all prescription medications are clinically tested on a timely basis. Provide daily clinical pharmaceutical services in the General Surgical wards.

-understand and implement Cost Improvement Programmes (CIP) to help the specialisation and department. In addition, audits and Quality Improvement Projects (QIPs) to present at specialised meetings will be sponsored.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

* Vocational Master’s Degree in Pharmacy (or similar)

* Has finished or is about to complete a postgraduate clinical pharmacy qualification (within the next six months).

* Be willing to pursue a non-medical prescribing qualification.

* Membership with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).

Experience

Essential

* Post-registration experience as a pharmacist in hospital pharmacy, spanning a range of specialisations, or the ability to demonstrate the comparable level of knowledge.

* Previous participation in a multidisciplinary team.

* Shows dedication and enthusiasm for delivering high-quality pharmaceutical treatment.

* Experience educating or presenting to other healthcare professionals or patients.

* Commitment to owning continuing professional development (CPD).

* Has relevant clinical knowledge in the hospital pharmacy.

* Understanding of national efforts and recommendations, such as NICE, NSF.

* Has knowledge of the available resources to answer Medicines Information requests.

* Capable of working with drug budget information.

* Shows an excellent understanding of hospital clinical pharmacy and current concerns.
