JOB OVERVIEW.
We are seeking a Principal Structural Engineer with past expertise in structural engineering, design consultation in the UK construction industry, and strong commercial awareness.
Working as the Principal Structural Engineer, you will support the Director in managing the design group’s resources by adopting or delegating the function of Project Engineer and reviewing, checking, and guiding more junior members of the team.
The position of Principal Structural Engineer is ideal for an engineer who enjoys working on a variety of projects in both the commercial and public sectors. You will take a hands-on approach, utilising your knowledge of Eurocodes and current industry standards to provide technically sound, sustainable, and buildable solutions.
The company has four offices and roughly 100 employees. They promote collaborative working across all disciplines and offices, with the function allowing for substantial exposure to and engagement with other disciplines such as geotechnical, civil, and façade engineering teams.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:
The Principal Structural Engineer must fulfil the following requirements:
- A suitable bachelor’s degree (or similar) qualification.
- Membership in a relevant professional body (such as ICE/IStructE). You may be striving towards chartership status or are already chartered.
- Significant UK construction industry design consultation experience in a variety of sectors, including residential.
- Ability to specify common material specifications using NBS create/building: reinforced concrete, structural steelwork, masonry, and timber.
- Knowledge with Tekla and Revit would be advantageous.
- Excellent commercial awareness and client liaison experience.
- Extensive experience designing superstructures and foundations in accordance with the most recent codes of practice
- Confidence in attending site visits, client meetings, and assisting with project finance management.
- Ability to communicate clearly, confidently, and professionally.
- Ability to produce clear and succinct technical reports.
- Ability to mentor more junior coworkers.
