This function is in charge of designing, analysing, developing, testing, and delivering power system and energy conversion solutions for various missions, including power subsystem lead responsibility for those operations.

Engineers at SSTL work on missions from design to launch, commissioning, and operational life; a genuine cradle to grave experience that allows you to witness your work in Space in a short period of time. This critical function will frequently be part of the core team of a satellite mission, collaborating with other technical leads from many disciplines to provide technical solutions for novel initiatives.

 

 

 

Important Tasks

The primary job in Space Projects will be the Power Subsystem Lead and Work Package Managers, which will include the design, analysis, development, verification, and delivery of the power subsystem/modules. Typical responsibilities include:

 

  • In space projects, serve as the Power Subsystem Lead and Work Package Manager.

 

  • Ownership of the power subsystem system and all of its components.

 

  • Identification of spacecraft system requirements and their flow-down to the spacecraft power system

 

  • Delivery of a power system solution that meets these standards in accordance with the company’s stated processes.

 

  • Management and verification of these specifications

 

  • Interfacing at the system and subsystem levels, as well as trade-offs

 

  • Management of technical solutions, as well as assistance to other design engineers as needed.

 

  • Management and delivery of work packages for satellite power systems, including budget, schedule, planning, risk management, and communications with project managers.

 

  • Communication with internal and external consumers

 

  • Technical document creation (containing FMEA at the interface level, development/test/verification plans, test methods, and technical descriptions)

 

  • Minor circuit design upgrades (replacing old parts, incremental performance enhancements, ECN generations, and so on)

 

  • Support product development and new mission concepts.

 

  • Making suggestions for future contract bids.

 

 

Previous Work Experience

 

  • At least three years of demonstrated Power System Engineering expertise in a systems/power electronics function, preferably in the space or aerospace industries.

 

  • Analogue and power electronics analysis, design, build, and testing in a system/subsystem design

 

  • Batter Charge/Discharge Regulators, Power Distribution Modules, Relay/Activation Modules, Drive Electronics for motors/mechanism, DC-DC converters (range from 5W-3kW), Heater Control Boards, Batteries and Solar Panels, etc. are examples of typical Power System Equipment in a spacecraft.

 

  • Hands-on design and production experience, as well as fault-finding throughout power electronics/analogue product development.

 

  • Excellent technical presentation and discussion skills in front of/with a technical audience

 

  • Recent experience with schematic capture and simulation tools (for example, MentorGraphics, OrCAD PSPICE, and others)

 

 

Qualifications Knowledge and skills

 

  • BTEC / Degree in Electronics or an equivalent qualification
