Summary

The Project Manager supervises and oversees the assigned engineering team, and is responsible for completing the scope associated with the selected projects and/or control accounts (CAs) within the cost, time, and quality parameters. They will oversee and lead the engineering team in meeting customer and business requirements. You will lead teams of engineers from multiple disciplines to complete the agreed-upon scope objectives, gaining experience with a variety of electronic systems, products, and technologies. The function requires extensive customer interaction and internal stakeholder management across the organisational matrix.

 

Job Description.

 

Roles and responsibilities

 

  • Leads the project execution of the assigned engineering team to meet Control Account (CA) obligations and projects. In doing so, coordinates, organises, and motivates cross-functional teams to finish projects on time, within budget, and according to schedule.

 

  • Engages with support functions across the matrix as needed to achieve engineering objectives.

 

  • Work with Technical Leaders (TLs) to develop the Work Breakdown Structure and corresponding CA work-packages while taking into account the scope statement and any other engineering objectives provided by the Engineering Project Manager (EPM).

 

  • Engages TLs and functional organisations in developing rigorous engineering effort estimates for the CA scope that are supported by a well-documented basis of estimate (BoE). Organises these estimates in accordance with the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and project phase to ensure the engineering project budget is secured.

 

  • Makes promises on behalf of their team to deliver the given engineering CA scope within the agreed-upon cost, schedule, and quality targets.

 

  • Engages functional organisations to secure the resources and skill sets required to complete the assigned CA scope. Works with functional leaders to identify and resolve any performance issues within the allocated team.

 

  • Collaborates with their team to identify and mitigate engineering risks. The risk register measures and documents engineering risk. Promotes proactive risk mitigation measures within the team to reduce project impacts.

 

  • Manages the team’s planning and operational performance throughout the project lifetime. Works with the TLs to ensure project team tasking is in place, aligned with project priorities, and makes the most use of team resources. Proactively collaborate with other Project Managers to coordinate planning assumptions across the portfolio of projects.

 

  • Collaborates with the TLs to identify and quantify internal and external dependencies, and ensures they are reflected in project plans. Leads the team in delivering on dependence outputs. Collaborates with the EPM to elevate input dependency needs so that they are apparent at the appropriate level. Reflects the impact of missed dependencies on project planning.

 

  • Works within the programme and project change processes to ensure that any agreed-upon scope modifications, whether internally or externally driven, are ‘consumed’ by the engineering team in a controlled and coordinated manner, with the change impacts reflected in the detailed engineering plans.

 

  • Performs monthly progress checks on the detailed plans for the allocated CAs utilising input from the TLs and team. Completes project variance analysis and implements KPI-related improvement actions, collaborating with the EPM to resolve cost or schedule variations.

 

  • Ensures that the TLs and the functional and technical governing organisations interact as needed to resolve technical challenges and implement appropriate engineering procedures. Coordinate technical governance reviews with the CEO.

 

  • Supports the Portfolio EPM’s stakeholder reviews, which include internal programme or business reviews as well as external consumer reviews. Generates the relevant KPIs and operational data for assigned projects and CAs to support these reviews, and leads them as needed.

 

  • Serves as the initial point of contact (POC) for managing external vendors. Facilitates the required technical exchanges between the supplier and the engineering team. Escalates and collaborates with the EPM to address any supplier performance or contract negotiation concerns.

 

Required Qualifications/Experience

 

  • An relevant engineering degree from an approved university, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with product design activities
  • Strong oral and written communication abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership abilities, with a high team-building capability.
  • Proven ability to assess and solve problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, plan resources, and fulfil tasks.
  • Experience in a project management job in an engineering or technology environment.
  • Experience predicting expenditures and monitoring financial performance
