Position Overview
Cerritos College, a leading institution in southeastern Los Angeles County, is seeking a dedicated Part-Time ESL Instructor to join our Continuing Education Division. Key Responsibilities
- Teaching Duties: Deliver ESL instruction in line with course outlines and best practices. Maintain class schedules and ensure course continuity. Provide timely feedback and keep accurate records of student progress.
- Administrative Tasks: Submit grades, attendance reports, and textbook orders by deadlines. Ensure all teaching materials meet accessibility requirements.
- Student Support: Foster a positive learning environment and offer opportunities for students to track their progress. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to district policies.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Master’s degree in TESL, TESOL, applied linguistics with a TESL emphasis, linguistics with a TESL emphasis, English with a TESL emphasis, or education with a TESL emphasis. Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree with a TESL certificate and a Master’s degree in linguistics, applied linguistics, English, or related fields.
- Experience: Teaching ESL to adults and a demonstrated understanding of diverse student needs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proven experience teaching English as a second language to adult learners.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to move between various classroom and office locations, stand, bend, stoop, and reach. Requires visual acuity for reading and auditory ability for communication.
Employment Conditions
- Contingency: Employment is subject to sufficient funding and enrollment.
- Background Checks: Must pass fingerprinting, provide proof of California residency, and meet health and vaccination requirements.
- Remote Work: Ability to teach on-campus or remotely as required.
