About Us:
The TfL Technology and Data Directorate develops and maintains complicated payment systems that generate over £5 billion in revenue each year. This is an opportunity to join the TfL Payment Team and contribute to the continued development and operation of expanding payment systems that provide innovation for its clients by offering world-class solutions employing cutting-edge technologies.
Our Payment Systems and Services are available on a wide range of platforms, including devices located at stations, buses, and pass agents, as well as on-premise Tier 3 Data Centres and Cloud Hosting Services. Examples include Oyster, Contactless Payment, ITSO, and Cycle Hire.
Payment systems are continually developing, with new services being introduced. Such development is carried out by a combination of internal solution, infrastructure, and network architects, agile delivery specialists, software developers, Cloud, and external third parties.
About the role:
The Service Design Lead will oversee new or updated payment services, with a specific focus on assisting Product and Project Managers in creating non-functional requirements and ensuring the delivery of the change across the project gateway procedures, including transfer to BAU operation. Working closely with a Transition Lead is also part of the role, as is steering the design through transition to acceptance into operational operation.
Working in a small multitasking team of professionals, your mission will be to collaborate with various internal and external technical and project management teams to shape the design and development of solutions from a service operation, compliance, and assurance perspective.
Key responsibilities:
To define and record the non-functional service requirements for any new or altered services, and to reflect these needs at all project gateways to ensure that they are met.
Establish and document the service acceptance criteria that a project must meet before being admitted into BAU operations.

Ensure and assure that the necessary technical and operational documentation for each modification is created, verified, and stored in the TfL data room.
Update the business and service catalogues as needed to reflect new or updated services.
Establish and maintain payment system architecture designs and best practices that must be followed for any new or altered service.
Shall collaborate with service specialists to ensure that any new or altered service to the payment system is designed and implemented correctly, and that the service’s functional and non-functional requirements are documented with suitable test cases.
You will lead any technical change from a Service Design viewpoint, working with technical teams to ensure that alternatives analysis, proof-of-concepts, and system impact assessments are performed satisfactorily throughout the Service’s life cycle, not just the delivery stages.
You will collaborate directly with the operating business, product, and project management to understand what the end user wants to achieve and communicate essential messages about service design and success to the technical team.
Develop and maintain excellent working connections across the Directorate, Suppliers, and TfL’s operating companies.
