Job Description

Advanced Clinical Pharmacist – Dermatology

University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust

We are seeking a motivated, forward-thinking pharmacist to join our growing Dermatology Pharmacy Team at University Hospitals Sussex. This is an excellent opportunity to take on a specialist clinical role where you will support patients receiving biologics, JAK inhibitors and other systemic therapies, while helping shape a modern, patient-centred dermatology service.

About the Role

As part of our multidisciplinary dermatology team, you will deliver advanced clinical pharmaceutical care through pharmacist-led clinics, safe prescribing practices, and the optimisation of high-cost medicines. Your work will support improved patient outcomes, better value for the health system, and a consistent, equitable approach to accessing specialist treatments.

Working closely with dermatology consultants, nurses, homecare providers and commissioners, you will contribute to pathway development, governance, and compliance processes — including NICE guidance and Blueteq criteria — ensuring that patients receive the right treatment at the right time.

Independent prescriber status is essential for this role, or you must be committed to gaining this qualification within 12–18 months of starting.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Deliver expert clinical input for patients on biologics, JAK inhibitors and systemic therapies.
  • Run and develop pharmacist-led clinics focused on safety, monitoring, and treatment optimisation.
  • Screen, prescribe and manage homecare prescriptions in line with commissioning policies.
  • Provide clear and supportive counselling to help patients understand their treatment and make informed decisions.
  • Interpret blood results, monitor efficacy and safety, and escalate complex cases appropriately.
  • Support pathway standardisation, value improvement and governance, including incident learning.
  • Lead on the implementation of NICE, Blueteq and local commissioning criteria to support fair and efficient access to high-cost medicines.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider dermatology team to deliver safe, patient-centred and evidence-based care.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for a compassionate, confident and detail-focused pharmacist who enjoys collaborative working and problem-solving in a busy clinical environment. You should be:

  • Experienced in clinical decision-making
  • Comfortable managing complex medication pathways
  • Skilled in communication and patient engagement
  • Organised, proactive and committed to service improvement
  • Ready to contribute your ideas to help shape the future of pharmacist-led care in dermatology

Independent prescribing qualification (or willingness to achieve this within 12–18 months) is essential.
