Exciting Opportunity for Experienced Surgical Nurses

We are currently recruiting for Band 5 Staff Nurses to join our dynamic and dedicated team on the 36-bedded multi-specialty surgical ward at Harborne Hospital Level 4 (part of CDG 9A). This ward specializes in post-operative care for patients who have undergone surgeries for Colorectal, Upper GI, Sarcoma, and Urology conditions. Our patients are typically one step down from critical care and EPOC.

We are looking for nurses who thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, and have a passion for post-operative care and the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS-Plus) approach. You will be joining a supportive and collaborative team, working alongside specialists to deliver top-quality care that improves patient outcomes.

What We’re Looking For:

Experience: You will have prior surgical ward experience and a passion for post-operative care and ERAS recovery.

Skills: Ability to work well under pressure and manage complex cases in a busy environment.

Team Player: You will work closely with our surgical and specialist nursing teams to provide excellent care through a multidisciplinary approach.

Training: We will provide opportunities for you to enhance your clinical skills in complex post-operative care.

Key Responsibilities:

Deliver high-quality care for complex surgical cases and manage post-operative recovery.

Work within a multidisciplinary team, supporting both patients and their families.

Assist with the training and development of junior staff, including Student Nursing Associates.

Help drive ERAS-Plus practices to improve patient recovery and experiences.

Requirements:

Essential:

Registered Adult Nurse on the NMC Register.

Recent experience in an acute NHS setting (student placements within the last 12 months are accepted).

Understanding of the NMC Code of Conduct and safeguarding principles.

Willingness to assist with the supervision and assessment of junior staff and students.

Ability to work a varied shift pattern, including nights and weekends.

Desirable:

Previous experience working in a similar surgical setting.

Experience in ERAS or post-operative recovery.
