Senior Staff Nurse – Acute Medical Unit (AMU)
Fixed-Term Position – 25 Hours per Week

We are looking for a dedicated and experienced Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse to join our Acute Medical Unit (AMU) on a fixed-term contract. In this role, you will be expected to deliver high-quality care and take on leadership responsibilities within the unit.

As a Senior Staff Nurse, you will be responsible for coordinating patient care and ensuring safe and appropriate placements under the medical teams. You will also contribute to the planning and evaluation of care, ensuring that the unit meets Trust targets and providing an effective learning environment for staff and students. Additionally, you will oversee the smooth running of the unit, supervise junior staff, and act up in the absence of the Deputy Ward Manager or Ward Manager.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Deliver high standards of patient care in the AMU, supporting the coordination of care for patients attending for assessment by the medical teams.

Oversee patient safety and ensure the appropriate delivery of care within the service’s remit.

Act as a mentor and provide a proactive learning environment for junior staff.

Take charge of the unit regularly and manage operations, including liaising with the Emergency Department and site coordination team.

Supervise, mentor, and support junior nurses, fostering a collaborative and supportive team environment.

Work flexible shifts, including both day and night shifts, to ensure 24-hour coverage.

Ensure patient safety remains the highest priority while managing resources within financial constraints.

Person Specification:

Previous experience in an acute medical setting or senior nursing role, ideally at Band 5 or above within the NHS.

Must be able to work both autonomously and as part of a team.

Mentor qualification or working towards it.

Ability to work flexibly across a 24-hour rota, seven days a week.

Awareness of resources available and a commitment to staying within financial constraints.
