Job Description

Exciting Opportunity: Medical Laboratory Assistant at Cambridge Cellular Therapy Laboratory

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Medical Laboratory Assistant to join a dynamic and progressive accredited laboratory. The Cambridge Cellular Therapy Laboratory (CCTL) is a regional lab that delivers cutting-edge cellular therapies, including the analysis, processing, cryopreservation, and storage of cells for therapeutic use. Located at the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, Europe’s largest biomedical research hub, the lab is surrounded by two NHS flagship trusts, renowned research institutes, the University Medical School, and a thriving biopharma ecosystem.

CCTL is expanding into a new, purpose-built facility within the Jeffrey Cheah Biomedical Centre, which will feature four state-of-the-art cleanrooms and the capacity to manage Class 1 and Class 2 GMOs. The lab is increasingly involved in Immune Effector Cell / AT(I)MP cell handling and supports the provision of CAR-T cells for a variety of medical indications.

Key Responsibilities

We are seeking candidates with a scientific background and prior experience working in a laboratory setting, following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Familiarity with the role of a Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) in a clinical lab and a basic understanding of stem cell transplantation will be essential. Desirable skills include experience working to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), knowledge of ultra-low temperature storage, and expertise in areas such as blood transfusion/haematology or immunology. Experience with the receipt, processing, and issue of products for human transplant will also be advantageous.

You will work with human blood and tissues in a cleanroom environment and support the validation and maintenance of both new equipment and the state-of-the-art facility. All tasks will be performed in strict adherence to GMP protocols, ensuring compliance with regulatory authority standards. As part of the team, you will be supervised by scientists and the Production Manager. Additionally, you may be required to provide out-of-hours support and weekend cover after appropriate training.
