Job Description

Exciting Opportunity for Band 5 Nurses at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham – Chemotherapy Day Unit

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Band 5 nurses to join the Chemotherapy Day Unit at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. Our unit offers a wide range of treatments for oncology patients receiving Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapies (SACT) and supportive care. If you are passionate about cancer nursing and improving the patient experience for those undergoing anti-cancer treatments, we would love to hear from you.

We are looking to recruit motivated and skilled nurses with at least 12 months of post-registration experience to join our chemotherapy nursing team. While previous chemotherapy experience is desirable, it is not essential. Full training will be provided by our SACT Nurse Trainers, clinical educators, and the education department.

Our oncology treatment suite, E1A, administers a range of SACTs, including ambulatory chemotherapy. We also provide supportive therapies and care to patients and their families throughout their cancer journey. The unit supports a specialist service for teenage and young adults (TYA) with oncology and haematology needs. A peripherally inserted central catheter service is also available.

You will be supported by a dedicated nursing leadership team to help you develop your skills and reach your full potential.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

On E1A, we care for patients throughout their pathway, including diagnostic, curative, and palliative treatments. You will administer SACTs and supportive therapies, assisting patients and their families throughout their treatment. The role offers opportunities to develop clinical skills such as triage, cannulation, venepuncture, central line care, and SACT administration. Experience in cannulation, phlebotomy, or central lines is an advantage, though enthusiasm and a willingness to develop these skills are equally important.

We aim to create an individualised and supportive environment for all patients.
