We are looking for an RMN to join our in-patient multi-disciplinary team, delivering assessment and treatment to older adults with mental health conditions in a recovery-focused setting. You’ll be part of a dynamic team, and we value your commitment to teamwork and collaboration.

This position involves working rotational shifts, including evenings and weekends, and may include shifts in other areas of the Trust as needed. You will be welcomed into a supportive, friendly team that will help make your transition into the ward smooth and enjoyable.

Additionally, you will have access to a wide range of CPD opportunities and funding for University BSc/MSc courses. You’ll also have the chance to engage in research and Quality Improvement projects.

About Pyrland Ward

Pyrland consists of two separate wards with 14 beds each, providing assessment and treatment to older adults across Somerset. Pyrland Ward 1 specializes in functional mental health treatment, while Ward 2 offers specialized care for individuals with organic mental illnesses, such as dementia.

Your role will involve leading shifts alongside another RMN, ensuring the delivery of evidence-based care while collaborating with community teams to optimize admission and discharge processes.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage designated service users, ensuring the assessment, planning, and delivery of nursing care.

Work closely with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) in developing and delivering care.

Oversee junior staff and students, providing guidance and ensuring active engagement in patient activities.

Administer prescribed medication in accordance with Trust policies.

Maintain working knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Mental Health Act and guidelines for consent and capacity.

Develop and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients, ensuring high-quality care.

Support the clinical management of patients, ensuring physical care and monitoring needs are met.

Actively contribute to the development of the service and assist with mentorship and supervision.

Person Specification

Qualifications:

Essential: Registered RMN with the NMC.

Desirable: Teaching and assessment qualification.

Experience:

Essential: Knowledge of the NMC Code, post-registration training, experience in clinical risk management, and supervising junior staff.

Desirable: Experience with electronic patient records (e.g., RIO).

Skills and Qualities:

Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage with patients, families, and colleagues.

Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage time and delegate tasks effectively.

Compassionate, empathetic, and committed to supporting patients’ recovery and well-being.

Ability to handle challenging behavior and manage incidents of violence and aggression.

Additional Criteria:

Must be able to complete PMVA training and manage incidents of aggression.

Ability to maintain accurate clinical records and assessments.
