JOB DESCRIPTION
We have an exciting opportunity for a Newly Qualified Social Worker to join our Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE) programme in the Braunton, Lynton, Ilfracombe, and South Molton (BLIS) Community Health and Social Care Team beginning in October 2024.
Are you a newly qualified social worker who is passionate about improving the lives of adults and committed to make a difference? If so, we would be delighted to hear from you!
We are searching for a dedicated and enthusiastic newly qualified social worker who can contribute the following skills to our forward-thinking team:
- A validated professional social work qualification (BA/BSC in Social Work, Diploma in Social Work, or CQSW) is required, as is registration with Social Work England by October 2024.
- Please keep in mind that if you want visa sponsorship, you must already have your Social Work England registration in place before applying.
- Current knowledge and grasp of policies and practices, as well as prior experience working in a social care setting.
- Passionate, person-centered, and eager to learn, you’ll be ready to take the crucial move from education to your chosen vocation.
- Confident in resolving conflicts, solving difficulties, and coping with difficult situations.
- Proactive and forceful in your approach, you are confident in making sound decisions (but not hesitant to ask questions) and developing excellent working relationships with your professional network.
- Excellent organisational skills will allow you to efficiently manage your time, including prioritising competing requests and working under pressure.
- Can speak effectively and have strong interpersonal skills, allowing you to establish connections and relationships with individuals of different ages and backgrounds.
The Team
The BLIS team works from offices in the community hospitals in Ilfracombe and South Molton, as well as remotely. We serve a vast area, encompassing rural settlements as well as towns and villages throughout North Devon.
Our team collaborates closely with NHS teams, other social care teams, district councils, and housing and equipment providers. We are an enthusiastic and supportive team of social care assessors, social workers, and occupational therapists. The team conducts assessments both in-person at the person’s home and digitally utilising different forms of technology.
You will be a member of a pleasant, supportive, and experienced team that provides regular peer support, supervision, appraisal, team meetings, and a dedication to learning and development, including access to regular CPD workshops. You will have the opportunity to travel throughout the beautiful North Devon countryside to examine and support the people with whom we work.
About the role
The ASYE is in place to ensure that all newly qualified social workers receive dedicated, consistent, and effective assistance during their first year of practice, allowing them to confidently pursue a career in social work.
The 12-month programme provides an excellent introduction to social work with adults in Devon and the profession as a whole. With our recent triumph at the Social Worker of the Year Award, now is a great time to join us.
Joining us as a Newly Qualified Social Worker allows you to apply what you’ve learned to real-world circumstances while also growing your skills and expertise. Your role will involve everything from:
- Complete assessments and reviews.
- Making safeguarding inquiries
- Planning help
- Working collaboratively with other professions to manage, negotiate, and resolve problems.
Most of your time will be spent on real social work, but this is also an excellent opportunity to train, learn, and ask questions.
What We Can Offer You
- We prioritise your professional development and strive to help you maximise your career potential. You will be provided with good support and supervision, as well as regular opportunity to discuss and reflect on your practice with both your line manager and peers.
- Reduced case burdens.
- 20% development time (pro rata) to support your function.
- Excellent training opportunities.
- We provide 26 days of annual leave, including bank holidays, which increases to 31 days after 5 years of service.
- Flexible working options are available, including part-time, flexitime, compressed working hours, and homeworking (according to role requirements; please discuss further during the interview).
- Opportunity to join a lucrative Local Government Pension Scheme.
- Devon is an excellent destination to live and work, with high-performing schools, colleges, bustling cities, picturesque villages, and some of the most magnificent coastline and countryside in the United Kingdom. Living and working in Devon as a newly qualified social worker has never been more appealing.
- Relocation support of up to £10,000 may be available for those moving to Devon, subject to qualifying requirements.
- Relocation support packages may include visa sponsorship, subject to criteria and circumstances.
