The Electronic Hardware Engineering Manager is accountable for functional, business, and overall corporate objectives. In this capacity, you will create engineering processes that fit the demands of the entire organisation, manage complex issues within your functional areas of expertise, manage and build teams, participate in long-term planning, and contribute to the overall company strategy.

 

Job Description.

Roles and responsibilities

  • The Electronic Engineering Leader is the functional and technical manager of the hardware engineering teams responsible for the design, development, and qualification of electronic and electrical product solutions within the Power Distribution and Controls engineering organisation. Your responsibilities will be to:
  • Provide functional leadership and technical direction to your team while ensuring adherence to company, regulatory, and functional processes and procedures.
  • Define your team’s roles and duties, as well as staff priorities that are aligned with company and divisional objectives.
  • Coordinate activities within your team to ensure technical excellence, timely and on-budget completion of work, effective resource utilisation, and responsiveness to customer/program needs.
  • Promote professional development by providing timely performance feedback, ongoing coaching, performing appraisals, performance management, and participating in pay planning.
  • Manage your team’s resource supply and demand, which includes hiring permanent employees, placing work at GE global facilities, and outsourcing work packages to suppliers.
  • Facilitate transmission of technical and business information among organisations and within your team.
  • Communicate with and support top leaders on technical, organisational, resource, and personnel challenges.
  • Collaborate with the New Business group to develop and cost proposals for new initiatives.
  • By instilling a Lean mindset in your team, you may encourage them to take a creative approach to issue solving and design implementation.
  • Ensure that your team follows the company’s compliance training standards.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Relevant degree or similar qualification.
  • Demonstrated expertise in a project leadership or new product introduction role over the whole life cycle within an electronic design sector, ideally in an aeronautical setting.
  • Showed functional and line management experience.
  • Strong understanding of electronic product design and development activities or processes, including experience with design for manufacture and prototyping approaches.
  • Strong oral and written communication abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and team-building skills.

 

Desired Characteristics

  • Understanding regulatory standards for aeronautical electrical/electronic design.
  • Understanding of regulatory and safety requirements for safety-critical items (preferably learned in an avionics or similar environment)
  • Exposure to lean techniques and technologies in a design setting
  • Formal management training combined with good team-building and project management skills.
