We are looking at an increasing number of engineering programmes and projects that require assistance, ranging from legacy propeller system support to current production propeller system support, new product introduction programmes, and new technology introduction projects that will propel our propeller systems into the future.
Job Description
We have an interesting opportunity for an experienced Engineering Project Manager to join the Dowty Propellers Engineering Platforms and Projects team, where you will be responsible for current and future projects.
The successful candidate will be in charge of managing projects ranging from the support of existing in-service propeller system products to new technology projects in support of future propeller systems, as well as participation in exciting opportunities in the advancement of hybrid and all-electric aerospace propulsion technologies.
The projects will require a high level of mechanical, manufacturing, and hydromechanical control system support, as well as composite design and construction, therefore competence in a variety of these areas is required. Projects may require foreign travel to support clients, project partners, and engineering service providers (10%-20% approx.).
Key Responsibilities
- Initiate, plan, execute, monitor, and control assigned engineering projects, including risk and opportunity management.
- Control customer, Dowty, and regulatory authority technological needs.
- Create a solid project scope definition, work estimates, plans, and timelines needed to meet project obligations within budgetary and contractual restrictions.
- Obtaining budget approval, initiating and leading Baseline Change Requests.
- Internal and external clients’ technical project contact.
- Leading cross-functional teams and coordinating project needs, as well as giving coaching to assigned staff to aid in project execution.
- Support bid and proposal estimates by estimating labour and material requirements using work breakdown structure approaches, and assist the company’s strategic planning process, including annual budgets, expenditure projections, resource planning, and funding requirements.
- Participate in technical and programme reviews as a presenter or reviewer.
- Design change administration and control.
- Monitor and communicate project progress, business concerns, and key developments to stakeholders in a clear and straightforward manner.
- Leading and assisting with lean activities and events.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, systems, engineering, or aerospace engineering, or equivalent qualification
- Solid project management experience in the aerospace or comparable regulated industries
- Ability to integrate and lead cross-functional teams, including but not limited to engineering, manufacturing, and sourcing, is required.
- Ability and expertise interacting with customers must be demonstrated.
- A self-assured and articulate communicator, both vocally and in writing.
Desired skills and characteristics
- Knowledge of the aviation regulatory environment, including civil certification standards, safety, and environmental regulations, as well as practical experience operating under a Part 21 Design Organisation Approval.
- Capability to organise many projects and engineering operations while balancing priorities and meeting deadlines.
- Experience managing sponsored projects (UK ATI, EU supported) is preferred.
- Competency in using common Microsoft software such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as project management tools such as MS Project, is required.
- Technical experience with complicated systems, such as mechanical, aviation control, and/or electronic control systems, as well as functional understanding of hydromechanical control systems, would be beneficial.
- Experience with ARP4754A-based development is not required but would be beneficial.
- Analytical and problem-solving abilities, as well as working understanding of lean or six sigma
