Key Responsibilities:

As a midwife in this role, you will:

  • Deliver high-quality midwifery care to mothers and babies during antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal periods.
  • Make autonomous clinical decisions in emergencies to ensure safety for both mother and baby.
  • Work independently as a practitioner, confidently managing risk assessments in hospital, birth centers, and community settings.
  • Be responsible for implementing evidence-based midwifery and medical practices.
  • Communicate effectively with a multi-professional team, including managing sensitive situations and language barriers.
  • Contribute to the preceptorship of new staff and participate in the development of the service.
  • Comply with Trust standards and policies, ensuring excellent patient care and staff collaboration.
  • Rotate between day and night shifts and work across different sites, including on-call responsibilities in the community.

Person Specification:

  • Essential Criteria:
    • Numeracy and literacy skills
    • Experience in effective communication with staff and customers
    • Able to work autonomously and prioritize workloads
    • Knowledge of midwifery care and ability to evaluate it
    • Able to meet Royal Free London’s core values
  • Desirable Criteria:
    • Previous experience in midwifery or decontamination
    • Familiarity with ISO13485/JAG/BSG requirements
    • Experience in a community setting or working with ‘normality in midwifery’

Qualifications:

  • Essential: Registered on the NMC Part 10 or equivalent, with experience in both wards and delivery suites.
  • Desirable: Evidence of ongoing professional development, including IV cannulation, suturing, scrubbing in theatre, and neonatal resuscitation.
