Lead Pharmacist – High-Cost Medicines & Homecare Services

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced and progressive pharmacist who is ready to take a leading role in shaping how high-cost medicines and homecare services are delivered across University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust. We are looking for someone who can combine strategic vision with hands-on leadership to ensure our services remain safe, efficient, financially sustainable, and aligned with national priorities.
In this role, you will oversee the governance, commissioning, and delivery of complex therapies, while championing our Patient First values. By working closely with clinical teams, procurement, finance, and regional partners, you will help ensure patients receive seamless access to specialist treatments—backed by robust digital processes, strong contract management, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Leading and developing high-cost medicines and homecare pharmacy services across all UHSussex sites.
- Ensuring services are delivered safely, consistently, and in line with national frameworks and guidance.
- Overseeing contracts and service-level agreements with homecare providers and ensuring value for money.
- Managing commissioning and recharging processes for high-cost drugs while maintaining strong financial control.
- Supporting service transformation through digital innovation, streamlined workflows, and evidence-based governance.
- Providing expert pharmaceutical leadership to clinical teams, finance, procurement, and regional stakeholders.
- Promoting consistent access to specialist therapies and ensuring high standards in medicines optimisation.
- Leading and developing the homecare pharmacy team, while deputising for the Lead Pharmacist for High-Cost Drugs, Business, Homecare & Procurement when required.

Main Responsibilities
- Provide professional and operational leadership for High-Cost Drugs and Homecare Pharmacy Services.
- Ensure all services comply with national standards, regulatory frameworks, and Trust governance.
- Oversee daily management of homecare services, ensuring safe supply, procurement, and monitoring of medicines.
- Enhance digital systems, automation, and processes to support service transformation.
- Strengthen both clinical and financial governance across the service.
- Collaborate closely with clinical teams and external partners to improve patient pathways and medicine access.
- Support continuous improvement through audits, service redesign, and pathway development.
