Job Description
We’re currently on the lookout for a motivated Casual Track Hand to join our team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors and has a passion for track maintenance. As a Track Hand, you’ll be instrumental in maintaining the quality of our facilities and ensuring smooth operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Attend operational and capital works meetings with the Curator Manager.
- Collaborate with Stewards and Trackwork Supervisors to address operational issues or incidents.
- Provide training and induction to new staff and contractors as needed.
- Operate water tankers, tractors, stealth mowers, and sweepers for grass track maintenance.
- Use tractors, harrows, rollers, and power rakes for daily sand track upkeep.
- Install and remove flexi-pegs and running rails on tracks as required.
- Clean and maintain horse stalls, public facilities, and grounds, including litter removal.
- Operate spray equipment to apply pesticides and weed control chemicals.
- Maintain and clean machinery and general training infrastructure.
- Secure and manage access to maintenance compounds and complex gates.
- Participate in industry training and professional development relevant to your role.
Qualifications
About You:
- Experience operating water tankers, tractors, and track maintenance equipment.
- Proficient in using hand mowers, ride-on mowers, and whipper-snippers.
- Capable of working independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills, particularly in handling industry stakeholders and the general public.
- Ability to prioritize tasks efficiently while maintaining high work quality standards.
- Knowledge of occupational safety and health practices relevant to this role.
- Possession of a valid ‘C’ class driver’s license.
- Ability to complete basic reports and documentation.
- In-depth knowledge of the racing industry.
- Willingness to respond to after-hours maintenance and critical issues.
- Availability to work weekends and public holidays as needed.
