Job Description

Teacher of Food & Catering
Summerhill School, Kingswinford
National Teacher Pay Scale (MPS/UPS)
Start date: September 2026

We are on the lookout for a passionate and talented Food & Catering specialist to join our friendly, high-achieving team at Summerhill School.

Why Summerhill?

Summerhill is a thriving 11–16 community school in the heart of the West Midlands. Our students are bright, curious and a genuine pleasure to teach. We consistently achieve the best GCSE results in Dudley Borough, but we’re about so much more than exam grades. Our House system turns the school into four big families, and everything we do is built on genuine care, character development and giving every young person the chance to shine.

Our facilities are excellent, our staff are supportive and ambitious, and the atmosphere is energetic and positive. If you love seeing young people grow in confidence as well as skill, you’ll feel right at home here.

The Role

You will teach engaging, practical Food & Catering lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, inspiring students of all abilities. We currently deliver the AQA GCSE Food Preparation & Nutrition, but we’re flexible if you have experience with another qualification that builds brilliantly on our KS3 curriculum, we’re very open to exploring it with you.

You will be part of a small, tight-knit department that works creatively together, shares ideas and runs exciting enrichment activities that students talk about long after the bell rings. Whether it’s preparing for competitions, hosting tasting sessions or linking learning to real-world catering, there’s plenty of scope to make your mark.

What We are Looking For

  • A qualified teacher with strong subject knowledge and a real passion for food and nutrition
  • Someone who can plan exciting, challenging lessons that stretch every learner
  • A team player who’s determined to raise standards and loves making a difference
  • A positive, resilient colleague who shares our vision of “be brilliant in everything we do”

What we Offer You

  • A supportive, innovative school that invests in its people
  • Excellent professional development and leadership opportunities
  • A warm, inclusive culture where staff wellbeing matters
  • The chance to work with genuinely lovely students who want to learn
