Job Description
Join Us as a Teacher at Robert Ogden School
We are looking for a passionate, qualified teacher to join our dedicated team at the National Autistic Society’s Robert Ogden School. Every day here is about creating meaningful learning experiences for autistic children and young people. We help them thrive in a supportive and understanding environment.
A little about us
The National Autistic Society works to improve the lives of autistic people. We provide specialist education, care, and support so that children and young adults can reach their full potential, feel included, and lead fulfilling lives.
About Robert Ogden School
Set in a calm and welcoming space, our school is designed specifically for autistic learners. The buildings are spacious, bright, and low-arousal to help everyone feel safe and settled. Our Inclusive Learning Hub offers a gentle, non-confrontational approach for pupils with more complex needs. Each child follows a personalized curriculum tailored to their strengths and interests.
The Role
As a Teacher, you will be central to our pupils’ learning journeys. You’ll plan and deliver inspiring, individualized lessons that motivate and engage autistic children and young people, including those with additional needs like ADHD, OCD, or PDA. You’ll take full ownership of your classroom, manage behavior positively, meet all curriculum requirements, and support each child’s progress and wellbeing.
What you will be doing day-to-day
- You will deliver specialist autism-friendly teaching using proven frameworks like SPELL while creating a safe, stimulating, and well-organized classroom.
- You will design and deliver a broad, balanced, and highly personalized curriculum, track progress, and share clear reports with families and colleagues.
- You will build strong partnerships with parents, carers, and a variety of professionals; participate in EHCP reviews; and help every pupil feel supported and included.
What we are Looking For
We want someone who brings warmth, creativity, and real expertise to our team. You’ll need:
- Strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills, with the ability to work closely with families, therapists, and external agencies.
- Solid knowledge of the curriculum from KS1 to KS5 and proven experience in differentiating lessons to meet diverse learning needs, especially for autistic pupils.
- A recognized teaching qualification and a calm, positive, and reflective approach that works well with autistic children and young people who may have additional complex needs.
This is a permanent, term-time only position, working full-time (37 hours per week).
What we Offer You
We believe in supporting our staff as much as our pupils. You’ll receive:
- An auto-enrolled pension scheme – A thorough induction program plus ongoing training, including specialist autism training
- An online staff discount scheme for supermarkets, tech, fashion, cycling, and more
- A healthcare cash plan for permanent staff
- Life assurance cover worth twice your salary
- A flexible benefits package, where you can choose from private medical/dental cover, holiday trading, enhanced pension contributions, and more
- A 24-hour Employee Assistance Programme with counseling support
- A free Headspace subscription for you and up to three family members or friends
- Eligibility for a Blue Light Card and its discounts
How to Apply
We’d love to hear from you! When you write your supporting statement, please:
- Read the full job description and person specification carefully
- Clearly show how your skills and experience match what we’re looking for
- Include specific examples from your teaching career

We particularly welcome applications from people who have a diagnosis of autism themselves; your lived experience could be incredibly valuable to our pupils and team.
