Job Summary

 

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Community Midwife to join our team. We presently have open roles at Heartlands, Good Hope, and Solihull Hospitals.

Our community team provides high-quality midwifery care to a broad population of women and their families. The community midwife teams use a named midwife model in GP clinics, children’s centres, and at home. The service is led by the Community Matron, and each team consists of the Team Leader, Community Midwives, Maternity Support Workers, and Community Administrators. Appointed applicants will be adequately supported and given a tailored orientation upon appointment.

Our midwives work a variety of shift patterns, including weekends, bank holidays, and an on-call rota system to assist women who want to labour at home or at the Birth Centre.

 

Main responsibilities, tasks, and abilities required

To be able to analyse, plan, administer, and evaluate midwifery care using a holistic and innovative approach to practice, as well as construct a women-centered, evidence-based care plan.
Support, manage, and educate junior staff, students, and support workers about applicable clinical and non-clinical processes and practices. Act as a practice assessor and guide for students as needed.
Competently use clinical equipment, with appropriate training as needed.
Communicate and collaborate well with the larger team.
Ability to prioritise task.
Lead professional in providing comprehensive care and assistance to women seeking a home delivery.
Participate in Clinical Governance by reporting serious incidents and having a proactive approach to service development.
Participate in parent education initiatives and activities in the hospital/community environment.
Accountable for personal professional actions, performing all obligations in accordance with the NMC’s ‘Code of Professional Conduct’.
Give advice on how to promote health and prevent disease.
Maintain clinical records in compliance with the NMC’s ‘Guidelines on Record Keeping’ and trust rules.
To work a variety of shift patterns, including weekends, bank holidays, and an on-call rota system to assist women who prefer to labour at home and at the Birth Centre.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

* Registered Midwife on the NMC Register.

* Diploma or BSc in Midwifery Studies

Desirable

* Examination of the Newborn (NIPE).

* Mentor/assessor training, or ready to work towards

* Newborn Life Support Training.

 

Experience

Essential

* Has worked in a range of circumstances.

Using all midwifery skills.

* Understands the application

The child protection processes

and the Mental Health Act.

* Demonstrates knowledge of

current and upcoming healthcare

issues

* Experience in caring for at

Service consumers at danger or who are socially marginalised

Desirable

* Experience with visiting home births.

 

Additional Criteria:

Essential

* Ability to prioritise personal workload.

* Demonstrates good verbal and written skills

Communication skills

* Capability to communicate effectively at all levels within the Department and Directorate.

* The capacity to speak with women and their families in a compassionate manner about their treatment and procedures.

* Full UK/EU driving licence
