Mission of the Position
Warranty Technicians will be expected to work as part of a team to ensure that the fleet of 3GT Birmingham Tram rolling stock vehicles is operationally sound, dependable, and ready for passenger service.
Providing fault detection, remedial action, adaptations, campaigns, and technical support for all tram systems. The Team Leader will increase the days work based on vehicle availability and in accordance with KPIs, with the overall goal of increasing reliability. Working closely with individual system and component manufacturers to resolve issues.
Electrical schematics, test and measuring equipment, and diagnostic software are used to determine the root cause of tram failures, as well as electronic management systems to undertake corrective measures and repairs. Whilst following all safety precautions.
Functions and responsibilities.
• Conduct root cause fault finding on vehicles and corrective actions in a timely manner to guarantee passenger service availability and dependability are met. Systems include:
o Traction, OESS, and Brake
o PIS & CCTV
O Networks
o Passenger Access Doors
o HVAC systems
O Auxiliary electrical systems
o High Pressure Hydraulics o HV and Pantograph o High Voltage Systems
o Complex taxi control systems.
o Safety-critical systems
o Event recording and on-board diagnostics.
o Bogies and gearboxes.
o Wiring and integrating circuit breakers, relays, transformers, insulators, cabinets, motors, and other electrical components.
• Monitor vehicle performance during service using remote fleet management and diagnostic tools, and report any anomalies to the Team Leader.
• Serve as a stand-in Team Leader when needed.
• Carry out campaigns, fleet checks, and modifications as instructed.
• Enter accurate information about all tasks completed onto the computerised maintenance management system.
• Participate in continuous improvement projects for processes and procedures.
• Maintain good depot housekeeping and follow CAF UK health and safety, quality, and environmental standards.
• The ability to go to other depots on occasion and conduct live test runs to aid in fault detection or confirm repairs.
Training required.
NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in electrical/mechanical engineering.
Needed professional expertise.
• Fault detection and root cause analysis.
• Can interpret electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics.
• Use of diagnostic software.
• Using test and measurement equipment.
• Three years of post-apprenticeship experience.
• A valid driver’s licence.
• Available for shift work, including nights and weekends.
