JOB DESCRIPTION

 

We have a fantastic opportunity for an individual to help build new and existing physical consumer items. These are home items that employ technology to monitor the well-being of companion animals in an inconspicuous manner. Assisting pet owners in better understanding their pets’ well-being. The lead technician will play an important role in testing items in our workshop and lab, constructing test jigs, assembling prototypes (PCBs, sensors, and mechanical assembly), and reporting results while working with a team of Product Designers, Mechanical Engineers, and Electronic Engineers.

 

 

This provides the chance to manage and maintain a diverse range of modelmaking equipment, cutting-edge measurement and mechanical test equipment, and prototype PCBA assembly equipment in order to provide an effective resource for product development.

 

 

 

Duties

Workshop and laboratory:

  • Responsible for the smooth operation of the R&D laboratory, workshop, and storage space.

 

  • Keeping up to date and following safe working practices (COSHH/Risk Assessments) in the laboratory, workshop, and stores for all lab users.

 

  • All laboratory and workshop equipment is calibrated and serviced/inspected.

 

  • Materials, fasteners and fixings, consumables, capital equipment, and tools

 

  • Developing and enhancing laboratory and testing capabilities to meet future project requirements

 

  • Planning resources and supervising external testing facilities as needed

 

 

Testing:

 

  • Workload planning and sequencing to satisfy project demands.

 

  • As needed, lead contractors or other technicians.

 

  • Working on test-related projects with the engineers.

 

  • Create precise product testing plans.

 

  • Soldering wires and SMD to PCBs, mechanical assembly, programming, calibration, test, and monitoring

 

  • Creating test rigs from scratch.

 

  • Analysing test results and locating flaws – some statistical knowledge is preferred

 

  • Documenting test outcomes in formal test reports and presentations using PowerPoint, Word, and Excel

 

Health and security:

 

  • Ensuring that H&S is followed in the laboratory, workshop, and stores and that it fulfils our company’s standards.

 

  • Ascertaining that risk assessments have been performed.

 

  • The procedure paperwork are in place, up to date, and signed.

 

  • COSHH compounds are under control, and proper documentation and procedures are in place.

 

  • Guards and PPE are in place and ready to go.

 

  • Participate in health and safety meetings and training for compliance and improvement.

 

  • Manage the proper storage and disposal of laboratory and workshop waste materials and waste products.

 

 

Required Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

 

A higher national diploma in engineering or an equivalent qualification is preferred.
