Job Description

We are looking for an enthusiastic and driven clinical pharmacist to contribute to the delivery of an innovative and modern pharmacy service. If you have at least 9 months of post-registration experience in hospital pharmacy, or can demonstrate equivalent knowledge, and are ready to take the next step in your career, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.

The role involves working across Heartlands, Good Hope, and Solihull hospital sites. You will rotate through 9-month specialities including acute asthma, acute and general medicine, respiratory, infectious diseases, general surgery, nutrition, specialist surgery, critical care, and renal.

The role is designed as a development opportunity for pharmacists with at least 2-3 early-year rotations under their belt and who have started or completed a clinical diploma. The position is also open to candidates who consistently meet the standards of a post-registration foundation pharmacist within the NHSE Newly Qualified Pharmacist Pathway. Upon completing the required competencies, you will transition into the full Senior Support Pharmacist role.

For candidates with 12 months post-registration hospital experience, the role will be offered as a development post under Agenda for Change Annex 21. Upon successful completion of the first year of a clinical diploma or NQPP, the role will be uplifted to a Band 7 starting salary in line with Agenda for Change pay scales. All applicants will also have the opportunity to progress onto the independent prescribing course.

Main Duties and Responsibilities: You will be responsible for delivering high-quality specialist clinical pharmacy services. There will be a strong focus on developing leadership and mentoring skills as you progress in your career. Your responsibilities will include:

Supporting core directorate activities such as reporting and analysing medicines expenditure, clinical governance, and risk management activities, including reviewing PGDs and relevant policies.

Training to provide neonatal intensive care services and neonatal parenteral nutrition.

Taking on enhanced roles related to education and training, including developing training programmes and supporting the training of new doctors.

Supervising junior pharmacists and trainees.

Person Specification:

Qualifications

Essential: A vocational Master’s degree in pharmacy (or an equivalent relevant qualification).

Completed or nearing completion (within 6 months) of a postgraduate clinical pharmacy qualification.

Willingness to work towards a non-medical prescribing qualification.

Membership of the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).

Experience

Essential: Post-registration experience as a pharmacist in hospital pharmacy, with exposure to a variety of specialties, or equivalent knowledge.

Previous participation in multidisciplinary teams.

Commitment to providing high-quality pharmaceutical care.

Experience in teaching or presenting to healthcare professionals or patients.

Active participation in Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

Knowledge of national initiatives and guidelines such as NICE and NSF.

Familiarity with resources to address Medicines Information queries.

Ability to travel across all Trust sites as required by the job role.
