Senior Engineer – Transportation Projects

HNTB is looking for an experienced and motivated engineering professional to contribute to some of the largest and most complex transportation projects in North Carolina. In this role, you’ll be part of a team overseeing planning, procurement, construction, and operations of major infrastructure projects.

What You’ll Do

  • Apply senior-level technical expertise to evaluate and implement a wide range of engineering solutions.
  • Lead discipline-specific planning, work distribution, scheduling, and budget oversight on complex projects.
  • Assist with business development, including proposal preparation.
  • Define scope of work, estimate effort, and manage budgets for engineering projects.
  • Review and ensure accuracy and completeness of project deliverables within your discipline.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members.
  • Coordinate project work with clients, teaming partners, and other disciplines on large-scale, multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Support planning and scheduling across multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 8 years of relevant experience, OR
  • Master’s degree in Engineering with 7 years of relevant experience, OR
  • PhD in Engineering with 6 years of relevant experience

  • Proven technical expertise and delivery of quality work on multi-discipline projects.
  • Strong ability to prioritize, manage tasks, and meet deadlines within budget and scope.

  • Demonstrated innovation and efficiency in engineering practices.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills, with the ability to select the right tools for optimal project results.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Engineering
  • 10+ years of relevant experience
  • North Carolina Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Experience managing large transportation projects
  • Knowledge of NEPA planning, traffic engineering, or roadway/transportation design
