What You Will Be Doing
Your day-to-day will focus on enhancing the well-being of individuals facing mental health challenges. You’ll help reduce the effects of their conditions by providing top-notch, recovery-oriented services.
Key aspects include:
- Showing genuine empathy while addressing patient needs.
- Taking full professional responsibility for care, including various therapeutic and clinical tasks.
- Serving as the primary nurse for assigned patients.
- Guiding and mentoring team members, including supporting student nurses.
- Overseeing daily ward operations.
- Upholding a respectful image of mental health services across the Trust and beyond.
A Closer Look at Moor Croft Ward
This is an acute assessment unit for adults aged 65 and above dealing with functional mental health issues. Many patients transition smoothly back home after their stay.
Your primary tasks will involve:
- Ensuring patient dignity, privacy, and safety without compromise, including thorough risk assessments.
- Complying with key laws like the Mental Health Act and

- Spotting and addressing any signs of potential harm to protect vulnerable individuals.
- Upholding top professional standards at all times.
- Collaborating with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to plan and deliver evidence-based care.
- Evaluating needs and providing timely, suitable interventions.
- Handling medication safely, from storage to administration.
Our MDT brings together experts in medicine, psychology, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech and language, dietetics, and physical health. This allows for thorough, personalized assessments. Daily team huddles and discussions ensure a well-rounded approach, focusing on effective treatment, management, and early discharge planning.

This position is in a dynamic inpatient setting for up to 18 patients, where you’ll deliver tailored, high-quality support in partnership with patients, families, and the MDT, always adhering to best practices.

What We are Looking For
Qualifications (Essential):
- Active registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) as RNMH or RNLD (or RNSC for CAMHS roles; RGN if applicable note if open to general nurses).
- Commitment to becoming a practice assessor/mentor within an agreed period.
- Completion of clinical supervisor training within your initial six months.
- Proof of ongoing professional development.
Knowledge (Essential):
- Solid grasp of evidence-based practices in your specialty.
- Familiarity with laws such as the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act.
- Knowledge of safeguarding protocols and how to apply them.
- Expertise in clinical risk assessment and management.
- Understanding of clinical governance.
- Strong skills in medication management, including injections.
Skills and Experience (Essential):
- Effectively share complex, sensitive info with patients, families, and the MDT.
- Thrive in a team setting.
- Handle lead professional or care coordinator duties after probation.
- Manage your schedule and priorities efficiently.

This role requires a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1975 (Exceptions) Order. We’ll submit for a check to review any prior convictions.
