Job Description

Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is currently recruiting for a Named Professional / Named Nurse for Safeguarding Children and Young People. This senior position offers a rewarding chance to lead vital child protection efforts in an acute hospital environment and contribute to safer outcomes for vulnerable children across our services.

Working closely with the Head of Safeguarding and Vulnerabilities as part of our committed ‘Think Family’ team, you will help the Trust meet its legal obligations under key frameworks such as Working Together to Safeguard Children (2023), the Children Acts 1989 and 2004, and current NHS England safeguarding expectations.
Your leadership will focus on embedding strong safeguarding principles throughout the organisation. Core aspects of the role include:

  • Offering specialist clinical guidance and support to multidisciplinary teams dealing with complex child protection cases.
  • Overseeing the development and implementation of safeguarding policies, procedures, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Delivering expert supervision, mentoring, and training to build staff capability and confidence in recognising and responding to safeguarding concerns.
  • Strengthening partnerships with external agencies, including children’s social care, police, and other health providers, to promote effective joint working and information sharing.
  • Leading audits, serious incident reviews, and assurance processes to monitor performance and drive continuous enhancement in safeguarding practice.
  • Advocating for a Trust-wide culture that views protecting children as a collective duty, ensuring safeguarding remains a high priority in everyday care delivery.

We welcome applications from registered nurses (or equivalent qualified professionals) with extensive experience in child safeguarding, ideally in an acute or secondary care setting. The ideal candidate will demonstrate resilience in high-pressure situations, exceptional interpersonal and influencing skills, and a proven track record of multi-agency collaboration and strategic leadership.

Become part of an innovative, clinically driven NHS Foundation Trust that delivers integrated acute and community care to a population exceeding 420,000 across Mansfield, Ashfield, Newark and Sherwood districts, plus neighbouring parts of Derbyshire and Lincolnshire. We partner closely with local health and social care organisations to deliver person-centred services.

At our core, we prioritise compassionate, family-like treatment for every patient while nurturing a supportive workplace where colleagues show kindness and mutual respect. Our achievements include being named the best acute Trust to work for in the East Midlands for seven straight years in the national NHS Staff Survey, alongside an overall ‘Outstanding’ rating from the Care Quality Commission with King’s Mill Hospital standing out as the sole ‘Outstanding’ NHS hospital in the region.

If you are a dedicated safeguarding specialist eager to drive positive change and protect children in a dynamic Trust, we invite you to apply.
