This is a full-time, permanent position, though we are also open to part-time applicants.

Key Responsibilities:
As a Metadata Specialist, you will have the opportunity to work across various teams within the British Library’s metadata department. Your primary role will be creating, editing, and managing metadata for both print and digital publications, along with their associated creators and contributors. This position offers opportunities to contribute to workflow improvements, quality assurance, and even cataloguing policy development.
You will handle a wide range of materials, including legal deposits, purchased, and donated items that enrich the British Library’s vast collection. A critical aspect of the role will be applying international cataloguing standards in accordance with departmental policies, ensuring both precision and efficiency in your work.
Responsibilities Include:
- Creating and editing metadata for digital and print publications.
- Collaborating with multiple teams on workflow management and improvement.
- Performing quality assurance on metadata to meet internal and external standards.
- Contributing to cataloguing policy development and process enhancements.
- Applying relevant international cataloguing standards such as RDA, MARC21, DDC, and FAST.
- Managing workloads efficiently to meet personal and team targets while balancing quality and quantity.
Qualifications and Skills:
- A solid understanding of RDA, MARC21, DDC, and FAST cataloguing standards is highly desirable.
- Proven experience in a bibliographic or metadata environment, balancing accuracy and volume.
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced setting.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to engage with team members, management, and external clients.
- Proficiency in IT systems, including the ability to manage digital workflows.
