Join our dedicated team and make a real difference in lung cancer care

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced registered nurse to become part of our Macmillan Lung Cancer Nursing Service at the Borders Macmillan Centre, based in Borders General Hospital. This is a fantastic chance to work in a supportive environment where your professional growth is encouraged through ongoing development opportunities.

About the Role

In this autonomous Band 7 position, you will deliver a compassionate, patient-focused nursing service that spans diagnosis, treatment, supportive care, anticipatory planning, and bereavement support when needed. You’ll collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams across health and social care, breaking down boundaries to ensure seamless, high-quality care for people affected by lung cancer.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and coordinating person-centered care for patients and their families
  • Actively participating in weekly local lung cancer multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings
  • Attending regional South East Scotland meetings as required
  • Using your expertise to support investigations, symptom management, and holistic needs

What we are Looking For

We’re seeking someone who thrives working independently while fostering respectful teamwork across local and regional networks. You’ll bring:

  • A Master’s level qualification (completed or in progress)
  • Recent Band 6 (or higher) experience in a relevant clinical area, such as oncology or respiratory care
  • Strong communication, analytical, and organisational abilities
  • Flexibility to cover leave or absences when needed

Our Values

Everything we do is guided by:

  • Care and Compassion
  • Quality and Teamwork
  • Dignity and Respect
  • Openness, Honesty, and Responsibility
