Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Women, Children, and HIV care group for a Clinical Matron to join the team and contribute to the development of the service. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the Nursing teams within the Child Health specialties, with support from the Head of Nursing. This role will encompass inpatient, outpatient, and Clinical Nurse Specialist services.

The team is enthusiastic about this role and looks forward to welcoming a new Clinical Matron. The postholder will work closely with the Head of Nursing, General Manager, and Clinical Director for the Care Group, complementing the existing matrons for gynaecology and neonatal care.

We are seeking a forward-thinking, innovative candidate with a proven track record of driving change and service improvement. The ideal candidate will be adaptable, with excellent communication and organisational skills, and, most importantly, an enthusiasm for the role.

Please note: This is an on-site role due to the clinical nature of the work; remote working is not available.

The Clinical Matron will lead on quality, safety, and patient experience within Child Health, contributing to the Quality Improvement Plan and the broader Care Group agenda, with responsibilities delegated by the Head of Nursing. They will guide the RCHT Nursing, Midwifery, and Allied Health Professionals’ vision for the specialty and ensure effective implementation of service objectives within the available resources.

To succeed in this role, the Clinical Matron will need to provide proactive, visible leadership across four key areas: service leadership, people and personal leadership, quality leadership, and collaborative leadership. They will be responsible for addressing clinical issues swiftly, minimizing any negative impact on patient care quality, and monitoring safety through the analysis of various metrics. They will also advise the Care Group senior leadership team when issues arise.
