To support the Center for Power Transmission and Motion Control’s laboratory-based activities, we are looking to hire an experimental officer (PTMC). Being a division of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the Centre conducts joint research projects, offers direct industry consultation and continuing professional development (CPD) courses. The Experimental Officer’s job is to assist with the delivery of these services, especially the hands-on learning experiences offered by the CPD courses. We are searching for a passionate person with strong technical knowledge who is eager to pick up new skills as needed and who wants to work in a learning atmosphere.
The CPD courses, which cover hydraulic parts and circuits, control systems, and electrical drives, are well-established. Each session draws 10 to 20 representatives from industry, is typically 4 days long, and includes lectures, tutorials, and laboratory activities. There is an experienced teaching staff, and the courses are delivered with outstanding teamwork and excellent delegate feedback.
In addition to maintaining and developing instructional test rigs, the position holder will assist in leading laboratory training activities for delegates. There is a chance to direct some tutorial exercises and perhaps provide a few lectures in the person’s area(s) of competence. Also, there will be chances to design, construct, and manage lab rigs for research or consulting needs.
It’s necessary to understand electromechanical systems. Hydraulics knowledge is preferred, although training is available. The ideal candidate would be well-versed in communication.
Candidates must have at least an HNC, City & Guilds, or equivalent in mechanical engineering or a closely related field. They may also have a degree or have completed an engineering apprenticeship.
