For its Biomechanics and Structural Testing Laboratory, the Department of Mechanical Engineering is seeking a highly qualified, flexible, and self-driven Technical Expert (BSTL).
The chosen candidate will be in charge of direct supervision of all lab users as well as technical assistance and support for our undergraduate students, academic and research staff, and other users in the workshops and labs of the BSTL. Together with using and maintaining materials and structural testing equipment, you will be skilled in the safe operation and usage of a variety of biomechanics laboratory equipment. The position holder will also provide technical help and guidance for the design, production, and upkeep of specialized rigs, tools, and parts used in the BSTL facilities.
A fundamental understanding of fitting, assembling, machining, and general mechanical abilities would be helpful, however training in these areas will be offered as needed. Although knowledge of vibration instrumentation and equipment is not required, it would be advantageous. Proven experience using material testing systems and equipment is.
Candidates should possess applicable A level qualifications or NVQ equivalents, have experience working in a materials testing and/or laboratory environment, and have relevant experience.
Full-time employment on campus is required for this position; remote or hybrid working is not permitted.
