We provide high-quality Neonatal care to over 10,000 babies across the region.
Our Heartlands site boasts a busy Level 3 unit with 32 cots, including 12 Critical Care and 20 Special Care cots, as well as a Transitional Care unit and Neonatal Community Outreach Team. Good Hope offers a Level 1 Special Care Baby Unit with 12 cots and the capacity for stabilizing sick or preterm infants before transfer within our Neonatal Network. The successful candidate will be expected to work across both sites.

In this role, you will take charge of clinical shifts, coordinating care across the unit. Strong communication skills are essential, as you’ll work closely with families, internal and external teams. You will also support colleagues, share expertise, and maintain professional attitudes and behaviors.
Our shifts are: Long Days (7:30-20:00) and Night shifts (19:30-8:00), with flexible working options available.

Key Responsibilities & Required Skills
As a Band 6 Neonatal Nurse, you will:
Act as a role model, ensuring high standards of nursing practice and promoting a Family Integrated Care approach.
Deputize for the Senior Sister, supporting leadership and management, with a focus on clinical quality and standards.
Manage the Neonatal service during your shifts, ensuring safe patient flow and capacity management, including active involvement in safeguarding and safe discharge processes.
Coordinate staff allocation each shift, considering safety, competence, and skill mix, and be a visible presence for staff, families, and visitors.
Collaborate closely with internal and external multidisciplinary teams (MDT).
Take on leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse, making decisions and escalating concerns appropriately.
Continue to develop your professional knowledge and skills, with support for leadership growth.

Qualifications & Experience Required
Essential
- Registered Nurse (Child, Adult, or Midwife) on the NMC register.
- Qualification in Neonatal Critical Care or Intensive Care.
- Substantial experience in a Neonatal critical care environment, delivering Family Integrated Care, and mentoring junior staff.
- Evidence of continuing professional development and maintaining professional registration.
- Experience in shift coordination and managing resources, including staff and patient care.
Desirable
- Healthcare management/leadership qualification.
- Neonatal Life Support (NLS) Provider.
- Experience with therapeutic hypothermia, administering Nitric Oxide, or palliative care pathways.
- Experience in managing difficult conversations.
Skills and Attributes
- Competence in using non-invasive and invasive ventilation equipment.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and team-building skills.
- Ability to manage competing demands and perform under pressure.
- Sound clinical reasoning and decision-making.
- Ability to inspire and lead a team while maintaining a positive attitude.
Additional Information
