Kids’ services at Lancashire County Council are forward-thinking and creative places to work that use strengths-based methods and the Family Safeguarding model of practise. Across our social work teams, there are a lot of exciting job openings as we make good changes and grow our service. Now is a great time to work for us!

As one of the biggest local governments offering a wide range of services that are always changing, there are also lots of chances to move up in your job and get better at what you do. As a social worker, getting the right help is important for both your job and your personal life. Luckily, we have a great group of managers who share our values and goals for our service and their Social Workers to give you the help you need to do your best at work.

Lancashire knows how important it is to have the right help, a good work-life balance, and a caseload that is easy to handle. By lowering caseloads, providing the best training and support, and expanding the range of services we offer, we are taking advantage of national funding opportunities to improve our service and make sure our Social Workers can make a positive difference for Lancashire’s children and families.

Our well-established Social Work Academy has a full induction plan for new employees. There are also regular recall days and training for ASYEs to help them learn more and feel more confident in their practise. Our team of Advanced Practitioners runs the Academy and helps all of our service users get the best support, training, and help they need to improve their skills.

All of our teams work with kids, teens, and families using a strengths-based method to make sure they get the right help at the right time. This is based on the Family Safeguarding model.

As part of the Duty and Assessment team

A lot of money has been put into the Family Safeguarding teams and the Children, Families, and Wellbeing Service, which means that staff in Duty and Assessment can really focus on doing good assessments on time. We are dedicated to providing a service that lets families, kids, and teens be involved in these evaluations. We understand that we are frequently the first people families talk to during what can be a very tough time. We need to be able to work with other pros and agencies in order to do our job, and we help our employees make multi-agency plans that keep families together and get the best results for kids and their parents.

In Duty and Assessment, every day is different. This is the team for you if you like working quickly, building relationships, and helping kids and families figure out what kind of help they might need.

As part of the Family Safeguarding team

Family Safeguarding is a way to work with parents and children to keep families together and improve results for both groups by getting them to work together more. Our Family Safeguarding teams are made up of professionals from different fields, including adult specialists. They will use Motivational Interviewing to do their main Child in Need and Child Protection job.

As part of the Permanence team

Teams for “Children in Our Care” and “Leaving Care” make up the Permanence Service.

We care about and are brave enough to have big goals, big dreams, and aspirational aims for our children in the Children in Our Care service. We help them reach their goals and believe in themselves. Our kids are at the centre of everything we do, and they have a say in every choice we make, no matter how big or small. We don’t let anything stop us from being artistic when we work with our kids.

We pay a lot of attention to what our kids say, and they tell us that they want us to plan lots of fun things for every day, so that’s what we do. We make it a point to celebrate all of our kids’ accomplishments, no matter how big or small. We also tell them to dream big for themselves so that we can dream even bigger for them.As corporate parents, we work closely with our kids’ schools, health workers, foster parents, residential staff, and anyone else who works with our kids so that we can help them do well in every part of their lives from childhood to adulthood.

The Leaving Care Service will have social workers who share our values for young people and have high hopes for them to be safe and do well in all parts of their lives. We want our young people to be able to say what they think about how we work with them and how we can improve our service. It is important that the social workers we hire know what their legal duty is and how to work with young people. As part of the job, you’ll be in charge of a lot of complicated cases, lead meetings with people from different agencies, do assessments and reviews, and help our great Personal Advisors all over the service.

The Operations Team’s social workers will do work in the courts, in the community, and in places where people are locked up. Being a part of the service for Childrens with disabilities

Children with disabilities (CwD) Service helps kids and teens with serious and profound disabilities from birth to age 18 and care leavers until they turn 25. It also helps their families. Working long term with our families allows us to fully embrace and be on the journey with the children and young people we support and see their achievements at different stages of their life to ensure that they have good positive outcomes and that their voices are heard. We take a strengths-based approach to helping children and young people, to ensure we achieve the best for the children, young people and families we support. No day is the same with the Children with Disabilities Team.  If you want variety, challenge and an incredibly rewarding social care job then this is the service for you.

The Children with Disabilities social work service consists of 6 Teams helping families across the whole of Lancashire and includes Consultant Social Workers, Social Workers and Senior Social Workers, Child and Family Practitioners and Leaving Care Personal Advisors.  We are a specialist social work service undertaking all aspects of social work for children and young people who meet the criteria for help from our service.  This includes undertaking assessments, direct work, helping Children in Need, Children in Our Care and Care Leavers, undertaking safeguarding and court work, complex multi-agency planning, work within the Mental Capacity Act and supporting the transition to adulthood.  The service offers the chance for the development of a wide range of practice experience and skills and career progression within the service.

Multi-agency working is key in helping our children, young people and their families.  We work closely with multi-agency partners and other teams across children’s and education services to provide joined-up support that makes a real difference and improves outcomes for the children and families we serve. We understand the importance of working creatively with our children and young people.  We focus on our children and young people as individuals, getting to know them, learning to interact with them and understand their daily experiences, supporting them to improve their daily lives and outcomes and those of their families.  By giving each child and family a personalised plan of care and support, working with them over a long period of time helps keep families together, build good relationships, and keep problems from getting worse.

Our goal is to help disabled kids and teens reach their full potential and live a full, open life with the same chances as their peers. Come with us as we try to make a change in the lives of the kids and teens we help. They are the reason we do what we do, and we consider it an honour to be a part of theirs.
