Job Description

Midwife – Birth at Home Team (NHS Fife)

Full-time preferred | Part-time considered

We are delighted to offer a rewarding opportunity for a passionate and dedicated Midwife to join our Birth at Home Team, supporting women and families across all areas of Fife. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building meaningful relationships with families and is committed to providing personalised, compassionate care throughout the pregnancy journey.

About the Role

As a key member of our Birth at Home Team, you will hold responsibility for delivering continuity of care to your own caseload of women during the antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal periods. You will be part of a 24-hour on-call rota, supporting home births and travelling across Fife to provide care in a variety of community settings.

Skills in perineal repair and NIPE are highly desirable, although support and training can be provided for the right candidate.

Where You’ll Be Based

NHS Fife community midwifery services operate from:

  • Queen Margaret Hospital (West Fife)
  • Victoria Hospital (Central Fife)
  • St Andrews Hospital (North East Fife)

Our Birth at Home Team works closely with these units, alongside the wider multidisciplinary team, to ensure women receive support tailored to their individual needs, values, and birth preferences.

With around 3,500 births each year, NHS Fife provides a range of modern and progressive maternity services, including outpatient and community care, a Consultant-led Complex Care Unit, and an alongside Midwife-Led Unit. We continue to develop our services in line with Best Start recommendations, with a strong focus on expanding continuity-of-carer pathways.

We also have specialist teams supporting vulnerable women, child protection, perinatal mental health, bereavement, and infant nutrition.

Professional Development

We are committed to helping you grow. You’ll receive ongoing support from our Clinical Midwife Educator and Midwifery PEF, as well as access to our well-established internal leadership programme. Staff are encouraged to join external learning networks and pursue professional development opportunities that enhance their practice.

Who We’re Looking For

To join us, you must be:

  • A Registered Midwife with the NMC
  • Passionate about personalised, evidence-based maternity care
  • A strong communicator with excellent teamwork skills
  • Motivated, flexible, and able to work within an on-call system
