JOB DESCRIPTION

 

This position acts as a subject matter expert on a number of accreditation and compliance activities critical to Graduate Medical Education’s (GME) mission. Maintains a thorough awareness of national accreditation requirements and hospital policies, demonstrating a high level of initiative and independent judgement. Demonstrates initiative, ingenuity, and problem-solving abilities while applying a thorough understanding of the GME office’s responsibilities, functions, and underlying management structure. When interacting with internal and external customers, graduate medical education maintains a positive image.

Monitors and manages all ACGME-accredited GME training programmes and accreditation criteria. Responsible for policy development, providing necessary policy interpretation, and giving suitable advice. Administers and manages recruiting processes, such as resident and fellow onboarding and offboarding, and serves as the Training Programme Liaison.

 

Essential Functions

 

  • Serves as the principal technical expert for institutional, accreditation, and compliance initiatives. Maintains current understanding of accrediting and regulatory bodies’ compliance systems and processes, including the accrediting Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), The Joint Commission (TJC), and the Centres for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Reports to the Director of GME and works with the Directors of GME, the Designated Institutional Official (DIO), and the Chair of the Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC) to support the sponsoring institution’s supervision obligations. Develops collaborative ties with programmes to encourage continual quality improvement.

 

  • Interprets and analyses ACGME institutional, common, and specialty programme requirements, specialty board requirements, and institutional policies and procedures before making suggestions. Monitors outcomes and procedures in relation to institutional and programme accreditation, and creates systems and instruments to assure continued accreditation.

 

  • Review ACGME material required for institutional and programme accreditation, creates a structure for preparing for site visits, and collaborates with programmes to provide clear, correct, and full records. Reviews information updates provided by programme directors and coordinators in the different GME-related national systems (e.g., ACGME, WebAds, FREIDA, etc.). Ensure that programme directors and coordinators post the right information.

 

  • Contributes to the development of policies and processes, as well as monitoring their application. Advises and/or resolves resident/fellow and programme issues as they pertain to institutional policy and procurement.

 

  • Serves as the Training Programme Liaison. Ensures that sponsoring institutions and J-1 trainees comply with federal regulations governing the J-1 Exchange Visitor Sponsorship Programme. initiates and administers the sponsorship application process. Acts as the GME’s interface with the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG), the legal department, and Human Resources to obtain and renew J-1 and immigration-related papers for residents/fellows.

 

  • Participates in professional development to continually increase knowledge and abilities, as well as to distribute learning. Serves as a coach/mentor for incoming programme and institutional coordinators, ensuring smooth onboarding and awareness of requirements and processes.

 

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree or its equivalent is required.

 

  • Three years of GME experience. Required

 

  • Five years of GMW experience. Preferred
