Job Description

Support Workers

Ayrshire Care At Home

Blackwood is presently seeking permanent Support Workers to join our care at home team in Ayr.

As an award-winning innovative care provider, we assist the elderly and those living with physical disabilities and long-term conditions in their own homes throughout Scotland. We take pleasure in our knowledge and passion for providing complex care, ensuring that our customers receive high-quality care at home services that can range from a few hours per week to many daily visits.

Our Support Workers work hard to help our customers live their lives to the fullest. They provide assistance with personal hygiene, dressing, medication reminders, and light household chores based on their support plans.

As a Support Worker, you will work closely with our managers and teams to help our customers live comfortably, safely, and independently by providing some of the following personal care services:

  • Personal hygiene includes bathing, showering, shaving, and oral hygiene.
  • Continence management (toilet and catheter care)
  • Assisting with meal planning and preparation.
  • Simple treatments, such as medication help or cream application.
  • Personal assistance with wheelchairs, mechanical/manual aids, dressing, and getting in/out of bed.
  • Immobility issues.

The ideal candidate should have:

  • A commitment to provide high-quality, consistent treatment.
  • Ability to create and promote a structured routine.
  • Our carers may be our customers’ only point of contact each day, therefore they must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic IT skills, including the ability to use apps and devices to provide services.
  • The ability to function both alone in the community and as part of a team.
  • A suitable qualification (SVQ2) is not required because training will be provided.
  • Flexibility to work on a rotating schedule, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends.

Our Employee Benefits

  • Fully financed SVQ training upon completion of probationary period
  • Company sick compensation scheme upon conclusion of probationary period.
  • 34 days of holiday each year, prorated for part-time hours
  • Access to Health & Wellbeing resources such as a 24/7 GP Service, Physiotherapy, Employee Assistance Programme, and in-house Mental Health First Aiders.
  • Participate in internal support networks, such as employee engagement, wellbeing, and digital forums.
  • Company pension plan and other benefits, such as death in service
  • Payment for PVG and SSSC registration.
  • Discounts at big online and high-street businesses

We ask that all applicants read the Job Pack, which is available on our website’s careers page. Blackwood is devoted to diversity and inclusion, and as a registered Disability Confident Employer, we will interview any handicapped individuals who satisfy the required qualifications for the position.

SPONSORSHIP INFORMATION

International applicants must have completed a six-month probationary period or at least six months working regular shifts as a relief worker with Blackwood before being considered for sponsorship. This approach is consistent with our licencing regulations for assessing candidates’ skills, credentials, and experience as described in the certificate of sponsorship. Please be aware that we will not consider sponsorship of employees/workers who have not finished their probationary period or completed six months of regular relief shifts. If a visa expires during this time, alternate visa extension routes should be considered, as sponsoring will not be a possibility.
