Job Summary

The position holder will work independently and be accountable for safe, compassionate, person-centered, evidence-based nursing that respects and upholds dignity and human rights. They will be responsible for assessing patients’ care requirements and creating care programmes, as well as implementing and evaluating these programmes without direct supervision. They may have management responsibilities, such as running the ophthalmology department and supervising junior staff members. This position will necessitate collaboration across multiple sites.

The position holder will practise in a holistic, nonjudgmental, loving, and compassionate manner that avoids assumptions, promotes social inclusion, and understands and respects individual choice and diversity. They will collaborate with other health and social care professionals, students and trainees, agencies, service users, carers, and families. The post holder will contribute to the practice growth within their clinical care environment while adhering to Trust Policies, Procedures, and Guidelines. They will also be responsible for completing any work-related training associated with the role.

 

Main responsibilities, tasks, and abilities required

*The post holder will work pursuant to the NMC Code of Professional Standards of Practice and Behaviour and related professional standards, and they will be accountable for their professional activities.

*The post holder must apply current knowledge and evidence to assess, plan, provide, and evaluate care, communicate results, encourage changes, and promote health and best practices.

*The post holder must attain and maintain competence in defined mandatory and statutory training; develop and maintain clinical competences, skills, and knowledge that pertain to the area of clinical practice.

*The job holder must respond to patients, relatives, and carers’ concerns as they emerge, and take remedial action as needed.

*The post holder will assume charge of the practice setting as needed, or a specific section of the practice environment.

*The job holder will be responsible for completing tasks allocated by the chosen line/shift manager. This could include representing the practice setting at meetings, linking nursing responsibilities, auditing, governance activities, supervision, and role competence tests for unregistered nurses and students/trainees.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

* Registered Adult Nurse on the NMC Registry.

* Evidence and capability to revalidate as required by the NMC.

Experience

Essential

* Previous / recent experience of working in an acute secondary NHS care setting (including student placements within the last 12 months).

* Evidence of successes and career progress in the current position, as well as ongoing professional development/competence.

* Experience working alone and as part of a team in a health-care setting, delegating tasks to others and supervising others.

* Willingness to become a practice supervisor / assessor who fulfils the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) requirements for student supervision and assessment.

* Understanding and knowing the NMC code of conduct

* Understanding of preceptorship and work-based learning, including skill and knowledge absorption.

* Understanding the present relevant NHS policy background.

* Understanding and experience with safeguarding principles and mental capacity.
