Summary
About the Role
A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join Swale Borough Council as the Mayor’s Attendant and Driver on a permanent basis, working 18.5 hours per week.
Your principal tasks will include driving the Mayor/Deputy Mayor to civic and ceremonial events within the Borough, as well as infrequent trips outside of the Borough.
First-rate driving skills and a full driving licence are essential. You will also be responsible for performing basic routine maintenance on the civic automobile and keeping it clean at all times.
You will need to be flexible in terms of working hours, as many engagements take place at night, on weekends, during the day, and on short notice. You will work an average of 18.5 hours each week, although this may vary from week to week.
In addition to accompanying the Mayor to various activities, you will be responsible for guests in the Mayor’s parlour and ensuring that the Mayor is properly robed and wearing the right civic regalia on formal occasions. You will be the macebearer, tasked for cleaning and maintaining the municipal regalia.

About You
Prior knowledge of civic and ceremonial protocols is preferred; nevertheless, training will be provided. Your responsibilities will need you to engage with a wide range of people, therefore the ability to present yourself in a courteous and respectful manner at all times, reflecting the dignity and status of the Mayoralty, is critical.
You must be able to establish a positive working relationship with the Mayor/Deputy Mayor each year and provide them with great service and respect.
