Job Summary
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to obtain specific skills in a clinical setting. We are seeking a dedicated pharmacy technician to join our varied team.
The position holder will be an important member of the wider pharmacy team, collaborating with other healthcare professionals, including chemists, to oversee the provision and supply of medication to patients at Good Hope within University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) NHS Foundation Trust.
You will be responsible for providing a high degree of clinical care to our hospital’s patients by providing a safe and effective clinical medications optimisation service. As part of your responsibilities, you will collaborate with the clinical pharmacy team to bridge the gap between pharmacy and clinical area(s). You will establish important ties with the interdisciplinary team and serve as a crucial communication channel.
In this role, you will be fully supported in developing the skills and experience needed to practise at an advanced level in a hospital context. As the successful candidate, you will participate in a comprehensive training programme with the assistance of numerous experienced Clinical Pharmacy Technicians.

Main responsibilities, tasks, and abilities required
With a patient-centered approach, you will:
*Assist the pharmacy department in providing comprehensive pharmaceutical care to patients; *Provide a high-quality ward-based medications optimisation service to a variety of regions across the Trust;
As a role model, provide training and mentorship to junior staff members.
Support the pharmacy satellite unit in cancer services.
Carry out accuracy checking commitments.
Key Person Specification Requirements
Obtain a nationally approved pharmacy technician qualification and register with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
Currently working as a licenced pharmacy technician with post-qualification experience in an acute setting.
A nationally acknowledged and validated accuracy checking qualification.
A professional approach with the capacity to encourage oneself and others
The ability to stay cool under pressure.
A flexible approach and commitment to meet the needs of the service.
A keen attention to detail.
Experience as a clinical pharmacy technician or in a comparable role is desired.
This position provides in-service development training and the opportunity to get important clinical experience. Participation in one evening per week, one out of every seven to twelve weekends, and one bank holiday per year will be required on a rotating basis.

Qualifications
Essential
- Must include the following:
- Professional registration with the GPC.
- Accredited for Dispensing Accuracy. West Midlands scheme or an equal.
- Evidence of Continuous Professional Development.
- Certified Checking Technician (National Framework) or equivalent.
- Add one of the following:
- Level 3 Diploma in Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians.
OR
- BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Pharmaceutical Science and Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Pharmacy Service Skills.
OR
- Equivalent as determined by the General Pharmaceutical Council
Desirable
- Accredited Checking Technician (National Framework).
Experience
Essential
- Pre-qualification in pharmacy requires two years of work experience.
- Currently working as a band 4 pharmacy technician / equivalent or higher with post-qualification experience in an acute setting.
- The capacity to demonstrate a comparable degree of knowledge and appropriate practical experience for the position
- Significant experience in the pharmacy setting.
- Experience with the particular function for the area of responsibility.
- Experience organising different levels of workers and their workload.
- Experienced in following policies and procedures
- Significant experience in the hospital pharmacy setting
- Understanding the Good Distribution Practice (GDP)
- Workplace health and safety, including COSHH
