Job Summary

We’re looking for a hardworking Category Manager to join our award-winning team at Regent Court in Edgbaston, Birmingham.

The role’s goal is to identify, design, and deliver credible savings/work programmes while also engaging stakeholders in corporate departments. While ensuring that all procurement activity complies with public procurement legislation and the Trust’s standing financial instructions.

You must have contract management experience and be comfortable influencing and dealing with vendors and internal stakeholders. Your ability to create value for money and provide solutions is critical to this role. You will establish, cultivate, and maintain professional relationships with department heads, operational leads, and senior finance managers, as well as provide frequent project status reports.

You will be part of a team that spans different business categories, working collaboratively to take initiative and exchange knowledge that will feed into the ICB/Trust/Department strategy.

 

Main responsibilities, tasks, and abilities required

 

General

 

  • Manage corporate procurement for all Trusts with the BSOL PC, especially within the Estates category, although help across other areas such as professional services, facilities management, IT, and capital works may also be necessary.
  • Identify projects and design work plans and cost improvement programmes on an annual basis with regular reviews and updates throughout the year to fulfil the agreed-upon objectives and targets.
  • Lead and manage complicated procurement/tender exercises, including the development of tender and contract paperwork.
  • Provide specialised procurement knowledge over a wide range of sectors covered by the BSOL PC.
  • Conduct market research to gain a thorough understanding of all key commodities and supply markets.
  • Manage the introduction of alternative products and sources of supply to reach high levels of rationalisation and/or standardisation, be a key influencer, and participate in user consultation groups.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Engage, create, and maintain strong relationships with departments and key stakeholders to maximise performance and efficiencies throughout the Trust(s)/ICB.
  • Develop a constructive working relationship between the BSOL PC and its suppliers to ensure performance criteria are continuously met, monitored, and managed successfully.
  • Negotiate with suppliers and stakeholders to obtain the best value for money.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Good general education standards.
  • Degree level or similar experience

 

Desirable

  • Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply Level 4 qualification (or higher). Graduate Diploma or working towards

 

Experience

Essential

  • Experience working in a procurement team.
  • Experience with Corporate Service Procurement for Estates
  • Successful project management experience with the ability to deliver projects on time.
  • Experience in contract, stakeholder, and supplier management
  • Experience dealing with a variety of stakeholder groups.
  • Experience in negotiating complex contracts
  • Solid understanding of contract management
  • Understanding of best practices in procurement and supply

 

Desirable

  • Experience with Public Sector or NHS procurement
