JOB SUMMARY
GE Aerospace is a prominent manufacturer of aircraft engines and components, working with the world’s leading aerospace firms on commercial, business jet, and military applications.
The Controls Engineer is in charge of diagnosing and repairing electrical controls on equipment, as well as developing controls strategies for the entire building management system. In this capacity, you will be in charge of meeting regulatory requirements, as well as maintaining, troubleshooting, and diagnosing equipment. You will be needed to work in sensitive locations, adhering to all GE requirements and generating high-quality work. You will assist the team with control-related breakdowns on various equipment and play an important role in the development of our building management system. The role will be dayshift, however owing to the nature of the job, you may be required to work outside of normal working hours to satisfy business needs.
Job description
Essential Responsibilities
- Work to ensure electrical safety.
- Oversee and assist the design and construction of electrical control panels, including documentation of all drawings and technical data in accordance with current National Electrical Standards.
- Diagnose and repair control panels.
- Assist in building and managing the sitewide Trend BMS system.
- Implement solutions using your panel-building expertise.
- Tune inverter configurations to improve reliability and minimise downtime.
- Proactively upgrade equipment and plan for downtime across many sites.
- Ensure regulatory compliance is consistently maintained.
- Install, troubleshoot, and repair electrical infrastructure and equipment
- Work with the maintenance and facilities teams to oversee site-wide systems and processes such as fire alarm testing and emergency response.
- Proactive engagement with consumers and stakeholders through meetings and Maximo.
- Work on Thermotron/Sharetree environmental chambers, G&W/LDS vibration systems, Laselec wire markers, ovens with Eurotherm controllers, chart recorders, and other specialised equipment.
Qualifications/requirements
- Electrical installation apprenticeship or similar.
- BS7671, 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in an industrial setting.
- Fully familiar with Lock Out/Tag Out processes.
Desired Characteristics
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Good knowledge of PLC systems in an industrial setting.
- Experience with machinery safety legislation, particularly PUWER.
- Confined space training.
- HV Substation Awareness Training.
- IPAF
- Strong computer capabilities.
- Electrical Authorised Person is trained.
- Optical Fibre/Data Testing and Installation.
- Working knowledge of Maximo CMMS.
- 2391 Electrical Testing and Inspection.
- First Aid.
- Desire to better himself on a continuous basis.
