JOB DESCRIPTION

 

An amazing opportunity has arisen for a number of Senior Support Workers to work within our First Response Services in Wirral, which are spread across two sites: Springview Psychiatric Unit and Arrowe Park Hospital. Full time and part-time positions will be considered. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to Urgent Care Mental Health First Response Services, which will include Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Teams, Liaison Services, Street Triage Services, Liaison and Diversion Services, and the Crisis Line.

Main responsibilities of the job

The Senior Support Worker will be responsible for aiding qualified practitioners, primarily within the Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Team, but also throughout the Urgent Care Mental Health First Response Service.

The work will also include signposting and recommending to appropriate services, and it is expected that the post holder will establish good relationships with third-party and partner organisations to cooperatively serve the needs of individuals in crisis.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ level 3 in Health or Social Care, NVQ 3 Apprenticeship in Health or Social Care, or an equivalent qualification
  • Evidence of a training program for supporting people with mental health
  • Trained in psychosocial interventions or eager to undergo training.

Desirable

  • Honours degree in psychology; advanced IT and typing abilities.
  • Related academic qualifications.

Knowledge and Expertise

Essential

  • Understanding confidentiality problems and how they relate to mental health policy and practice solutions.
  • Solid understanding of contemporary professional staff development and ongoing service improvement challenges, particularly in relation to adult mental health care.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the ideas and application of anti-discriminatory practices.
  • demonstrate a comprehension of care plans, including risk management and safety strategies.
  • Demonstrate comprehension of supervision.
  • Demonstrate awareness of the support worker’s job within CPA.
  • The ability to explain difficult and sensitive information where there may be impediments to understanding, such as requiring empathy and reassurance
  • The capacity to make judgements using a range of facts or situations that need study and comparison of a range of possibilities, as well as skills for appraising individuals over the phone

Desirable

  • Understanding of a Psychosocial Approach
  • Knowledge of mental health laws and policies
  • Ability to use spreadsheets and databases, such as Excel Access. Evidence of publication in peer-reviewed, academic, or professional journals

Experience

Essential

  • Show experience working in a mental health setting.
  • Previous experience working with persons with severe mental health
  • Experience working in conjunction with service users, carers, and other agencies

Desirable

  • Experience working in crisis scenarios.
  • Experience working on support lines.
