We are searching for enthusiastic clinical chemists who can operate in a team environment and are adaptable in their working habits.
You would be a highly motivated individual with excellent communication skills who wishes to apply your knowledge, abilities, and experience to improve patient care and influence healthcare professionals on the optimum use of medications.
The chosen candidate will provide a high-quality ward-based clinical pharmacy service, with the help and supervision of our welcoming team. You will complete three-month rotations through a variety of key clinical specialties to gain the foundational clinical skills and knowledge needed to pursue a career in the NHS and advance to band 7.
UHB is one of the largest NHS trusts in the country. We have positions open at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham Heartlands Hospital, and Good Hope Hospital. Post holders based in Heartlands or Good Hope will also have the possibility to rotate at Solihull Hospital.
You will be encouraged to complete a clinical diploma or comparable RPS Foundation programme, followed by a non-medical prescribing qualification. You will also receive official induction training and designated time for education and training.
We welcome applications from certified chemists from all sectors who want to work in hospital pharmacy, as well as existing Foundation Trainees looking to start their careers in the NHS. Training and support will be available.
Main responsibilities, tasks, and abilities required
Using our modern electronic patient record and prescription tool PICs, you will collaborate with our technical team to analyse medication reconciliations, optimise patient medications, and validate discharge prescriptions.
You will provide an extended service to the Acute Medical Unit as part of a wider clinical team, assisting with medicines reconciliation at the point of admission and ensuring exceptional care for patients admitted to UHB.
As the Responsible Pharmacist in our main dispensaries, you will assist the workflow while also professionally screening clinic charts from a wide range of specialties. Candidates based at Good Hope Hospital and Heartlands Hospital (as part of or rotation to Solihull) will have the chance to evaluate outpatient prescriptions from a wide range of clinical specialties.
This position holder will work weekends and bank holidays as scheduled, as well as providing late-night service in our dispensaries and on-call services with the assistance of a more experienced chemist.

- Registration under the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
