JOB DESCRIPTION

Radiotherapy Equipment Higher Level Science for Healthcare Assistants

An opportunity has arisen to work with our pleasant and dedicated Equipment Engineering team in the Radiotherapy Physics department at Castle Hill Hospital in Cottingham.

We are searching for a highly motivated individual with an interest in pursuing a career in engineering, since the position will allow the successful applicant to earn the necessary experience to apply for an apprenticeship within the team.

The post holder will have to:

At the start of each clinical day, inspect treatment machines to make sure they are safe for use.

Assist equipment technicians with defect detection and repair.

Manage stock.

Track and document the progression of errors.

We provide maintenance and technical assistance for sophisticated radiotherapy equipment. The department features six Varian linear accelerators (two Halcyons and four TrueBeams), two Siemens CT scanners, an Xstrahl superficial radiotherapy unit, a Flexitron brachytherapy afterloader, and a Papillon contact radiotherapy equipment. In addition to the machines used directly for patient care, the team is in charge of maintaining test equipment for service and quality control.

The department was the first Radiotherapy Physics service to achieve UKAS accreditation to the emerging BS70000 MPACE quality standard, demonstrating that the team’s commitment to providing high-quality clinical services is a core value, and we continue to maintain ISO9001 certification for the entire Radiotherapy service.

Applicants who want regular but flexible working hours are welcomed to enable a 7am-7pm service.
