Detailed job description and primary responsibilities
Work towards becoming a subject matter expert on the trust’s data storage and data protection technologies, ensuring that they are optimised for optimal efficiency and in compliance with manufacturer instructions and best practice recommendations.
Responsible for managing tickets inside the Service Desk system (diagnosing and resolving faults) in compliance with service level agreements, and escalating any potential breaches to the Principal Specialists.
Will be expected to assess infrastructure problem areas and use judgement to resolve technical issues discovered via a variety of communication channels such as IT ServiceDesk, emails, and diagnostic monitoring alerts. This may entail collaborating with members of other Digital Services teams, as well as managed or outsourced system suppliers.
Provide technical support to other Digital Services colleagues, end users, trust and non-trust members, vendors, and satellite sites of other NHS organisations.
Proactively monitor the environment by implementing the appropriate interventions as indicated by Alerts, Dashboards, and other tools to maximise SLAs, availability, and uptime while adhering to business RPOs and RTOs.
Provide frequent reports to the Principal Systems Specialist on the capacity and performance of the clinical/non-clinical systems, as well as the trust’s infrastructure systems, for evaluation to verify that they are meeting expectations and identifying any restrictions or areas for improvement.
Ability to manage one’s own responsibilities and make independent judgements. Must be able to plan, arrange, and manage complicated tasks/projects, shifting priorities as needed and be adaptable.
Be comfortable authoring extensive technical documentation and ensuring that all configuration documentation is up to date.
To improve digital services, conduct research and stay current on emerging technology.
Be prepared to assist planned and unplanned tasks outside of typical working hours as needed. This includes evenings and weekends to minimise interruption to the trust.
Will be required to work on a rota basis at any of the three major hospitals. You may also need to go to other office locations for group meetings.
The position will need the holder to engage in the out-of-hours on-call rota, providing support to critical systems.

- Working knowledge of Windows Server Platform for all variants, along with all essential responsibilities, features, and components (PowerShell, File Sharing, IIS, Print, Clustering (Windows, SQL)
- Working knowledge of Active Directory services (DNS, DFRS, GPMC, ADFS, ADCS) and Access Control Management.
- Working experience with VMware vCenter versions 6.5 and above
